Knives on my cat

You're ripe for a "Can you identify this knife" thread... Just kidding. It's a Jagdknicker pretty sure, although the full tang construction and the aluminium (?) bolster and pommel are not that traditional.
OK... nice old knife and snazzy cat. Great picture !

The last year has been tough on my boy Finn. He's 14 now, and used to be a 20lb cat. Very large cat, so he wasn't super overweight, but a bit chubby. I used to call him Finny Fatkins. We decided about 18 months ago to cut down his food to get him to the vet's goal weight of 16-17lbs. He lost weight, but to much because he would gorge himself then throw up.

Anyway, at first he looked really healthy at a lower weight, but he was so used to eating whenever he wanted and being able to eat more that he would gorge on any food he could find. My nephews would come over and stuff would be left out. I caught him eating french onion dip!

Anyway, its gotten to the point where he is very underweight now. Instead of putting the half can of food all together in a bowl, we started spreading it out on a plate so it takes him longer, and he eats until he is full. A vet trip 6 weeks ago had him at 13lbs. Now he's at 10. They just diagnosed him with stage 2 kidney failure, which my parents cat Rusty has.

He seems happy, but about four months ago he stopped sleeping in my room. I think the hunger thing maybe. I don't get many pictures of him anymore, but after 5 years he finally gets a long with Rusty, to the point they can eat together. However, he is not doing well, we started both cats on a renal diet, and at least he is eating it and not puking it up or having other gastro issues, I'm hoping he'll gain a few pounds now. He used to jump on me and almmost knock the wind out of me. Now, its just like any normal sized cat.

Here are two older pics along with a newer one.

Newer one, I'll try to get a closer up one later when I get home from work. He's on the right. Both cats are 10 pounds currently. Rusty (left) is a bit chubby but he is a normal sized cat. Finn is a behemoth, and looks anorexic.

I’m so sorry brother. Prayers go out for both Finn & Rusty, you and your folks too.

The renal disease might hide a thyroid disorder (both come together or foster each other). You could have him tested (blood sample...) on T3 and T4 values. My Whitey was such a strong, healthy, heavy cat. In a few months he was down to eight pounds... Time for the vet to react : Oh, he could have a thyroid disorder. No, shit ? Took you a year to figure this out ! Whatever, it is quite easy to cure : medicine twice a day (thiamazole), diet food exclusively (Hill's Vet Prescription Diet) and white meat (turkey, chicken, veal, duck is allowed...). He is nice and chunky again. Best thoughts to you and your pals !

Sorry to hear about your kitty. Vincent is 13 and is on medication for a thyroid disorder He's put on some ounces since his diagnosis, but we have to feed him four times a day.
