I heard that those (particular ones) are no good. To be effective, those things need to come to a sharp point.

I am sorry, BUT, you are wrong! A sharp point will make them less useful not more so. A sharp point anywhere makes them a danger to the trapped person.

I think he means the cutting edge so that the seatbelt or whatever will be pinned between two sharp edges and so would be kind of self guiding and easier to cut the material, instead of a rounded edge. If that's the case then that wouldn't be a danger to the person because the edge is safely enclosed. What I'm thinking of is more like this, think of the tip of a double edged dagger, then reverse it so the edges are on the inside.

SOG, at least makes such a cutter, however, it cannot be resharpend so if it is saved for ONE TIME USE then that works fine. The ones shown can be maintained in a sharp condition by the user.
