Was curious if anyone is having problems carrying knives in KSF buffalo slips. There was a post in the new GEC 14 run thread by DelOro DelOro that I figured I would address to him here.

Del ...

I didn't want to continue off topic in the 14 run thread, see no way to email you, and this is too long for a profile post. I am curious about your comment about the KSF buffalo slips discoloring / oxidizing a couple of your knives. I also like the CK slips (and have many of them), but find those KSF buffalo ones to be more to my liking because of of their suppleness and slim design. Was curious as to what types of knives (blade/handle material) got discolored/oxidized. I have been doing a test since I saw your post on the 15 by carrying my GEC 18 stag coyote in a small KSF buffalo pretty much non-stop. Has been in the slip in my pocket (all day/evening) or on the dresser overnight since then and have noticed no problems affecting the stag, the nickel silver bolsters or the 1095 blade.

If anyone else has feedback, feel free to chime in.

Sure...

The two knives that took the worst of it was the #78 Stag & the #78 Blue Camel SFO (both GEC's).

I had to use a buffer/soft cotton wheels/bark river compounds to remove the discoloration/oxidation from both bolsters.

Simichrome polish easily removed the tarnish/discoloration/oxidation spots from the blades and backsprings.

Both knives also had a sticky/oily feel to them, as well as the slip itself.

This happened rather quickly and I feel fortunate to have noticed it.

My guess: something in the tanning/manufacturing process of the slip(s) or maybe buffalo leather in general ???

While the Buffalo Slips are a kind/generous gift to customers, I'll stick with my CK/KSF bovine leather slips. ;)

Thanks Del. That's strange. Maybe there was a problem with those particular slips. I haven't noticed this. No oily or sticky feel to the knife or the slip after about 14 days. I think I have 3 or 4 of them, both large and small. May try others. Hopefully, this is an isolated thing.
