I'm looking for knives similar in that they are uncoated carbon steel, 5-5 1/2 inch blades, and 3/16 thick stock. I'm looking for more traditional designs as well. I've looked at Habilis bush tool and it's just not my style. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

I was just looking at T.M.Hunt's Tradewater and the ESEE DC6. I appreciate the help fellows.

Jeff White has a similar design too...I have the 4" version with thinner stock. Interesting knife.

I ordered a Jeff White Bush Knife. Looks good and I am interested in the thinner stock....

My Jeff White needed sharpening when it arrived...just so as you know.

He has been slow to ship and terrible communication. I sent a message asking about shipping because it stated the knife was available but the tracking info never changed. So a week plus and no knife.....and no response to message.....hmmmmm

I saw the Jeff White knives, but thought they were a little thin for my tastes. I am interested in the Esee Dave Canterbury knife,if they don't price it beyond what is reasonable. By reasonable I mean about the same price as an Esee 5.

As far as custom knives go you should always figure on waiting two or three times whatever estimate is given.

Except for the thickness the Tops Mil-Spie 5 is similar,I wouldn't mind one at 3/16" thick. There is the RSK MK2 by Doug Ritter (spear point blade),a bit over-priced in my opinion.

Wish I could help more.

Yea, I have no patience for long waiting lists. If I buy off the forums or fleabay, I always ask about next day shipping. I would love something like a Turley Gasconade river in a full flat grind, or a Dozier wilderness knife in full flat grind but price and wait kill me. Looked at the MIL-SPIE 5 but serrations are a deal breaker for me. Looking forward to the Jeff White....if I ever get it.....

Well, after almost two weeks, The Jeff White Bush knife finally came in. It is exactly like the one pictured above and it did need a light stropping. I wanted SO MUCH to hate this knife after the bit of hassle over shipping but I can't. After the stropping I shaved some feather sticks and some light batoning to get to the dry center of a 3" piece of wood and it performed wonderfully. It is extremely light with 3/32 thick blade but I never felt like babying the thing. I used the back of the blade to fuzz up the center wood and then scraped the back on a ferro rod and got a fire started in less than 5 minutes. Then, I went to the kitchen and peeled an apple, cut up potatoes, carrots, celery, and tomatoes. I cut up some eye of round beef and some chicken and it was simply outstanding at every task I threw at it. I paid 45 bucks for this knife and it out performs every knife I own, some of which cost ten times that. It did not include a sheath and while I make my own kydex sheaths, I really want a leather sheath for this one. It truly is a superb knife. If you are on the fence about one of Jeff White's knives, and don't mind a couple of weeks wait, then by all means, pick one up. You will not be disappointed....Jim

Thanks for the review. I might be interested if I could get one at least 1/8" thick, that 3/32" stock might work for a smaller knife. That's just me though,I tend to be the poster child for Murphy's law. :)
