Knives that "grow" on you....

The old style Cold Steel Recon 1. I use to own a store (outdoors and mountaineering gear, plus knives and so on), and when the new Recon 1 came out nobody wanted the old models. I put them on sale but after a while I still had one left. I took it off the shelf and just left it behind the counter for any of my knife-less employees to use (we had a couple of girls who handled sky clothes, etc.). I remember using it to cut drywall and things like that. Anyway, it slowly grew on me and I ended up taking it home.

It's ugly, but it fits my hand perfectly and the blade gets really sharp without much work. AUS8 isn't going to win any edge holding competitions, but it's perfect for a knife that sees a bit of abuse, the edge might roll a bit but it's easily fixed.

I didn't like the original Spyderco Yojimbo when I first saw it, either. However, after it was discontinued I saw one at a store for a good price and bought it. I was going to use it for a trade or sell it. I played with it a bit, I didn't quite like the clip and felt the blade was too short (it has a large handle), but it felt great in my hand. So I decided to give it a shot. It became one of my favourites.

I almost won't buy a knife without knowing about it beforehand.

yesterday I received a 'konosuke f gyuto w2' instead of a sujihiki. I could have returned it, but opted to keep it because it is just too nice. The sebenzas of gyutos in my opinion. I was like 'NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!' When I opened the fedex box, but after touching some food I fell in love.

How do you like the Konosuke? I am particularly impressed with the grind on mine.

when I first got my ESEE lite machete, I was super disappounted. after some weeks handling it, using it, and looking at it. I realized, it is one hell of a knife.

I used to consider the Endura and Para-Military both to big for EDC - after acquiring one of each and carrying them a bit, I now consider the knives I used to carry with 2"-3" blades to small for EDC. I guess you could say Endura and Para-Military both "grew" on me.

After buying a Chambriard trapper I purchased a Companion. The companion ended up being carried more then anything (besided my ti millie). I have become quite fond of fench knives because of it

The scout pattern. Once I never really cared for them. Now I have several. Camillus no. 99.

Tried the modern, but returned to traditionals. Moderns just don't age well and do nothing for me. To each his own.

Rode long and hard but aged without grace. CQC7 about 17 years old.

believe it, or not!
it's the cs gi tanto
gi-tanto-80pgtk-full-1.jpg

it was originally bought as a "joke" gift for someone that was somehow never delivered.
you see,
i made the mistake of toying around with it.
and in doing so,
grew attached to it.
thereby effectively failing as a gift
but instead,
it magically overturned my unfavorable first impressions of "big ugly" into a silly luv affair.

Benchmade Mini Grip. It sat in the drawer for months. I'd pull it out and carry it on occassion but I just couldn't seem to warm up to it. Replaced the standard clip with one from a Contego; that still didn't do it. It wasn't until I actually used it that I realized what a great knife it was.

Benchmade 710 for me. I did not like this knife at all when I got it, held onto it and decided one day (about a year later) to try it again. Its been my edc for the last 3 weeks now :)

The mini grip when I first got one in 2009 i wasnt too impressed i sold it but just recently i picked up another one and so far i really like it
