I love knives of all shapes and sizes but there are some that really get my blood flowing. Sometimes they are knives that make me want to make knives other times those same knives make me want to just give up! I was thinking it would be fun for us makers here to share our thoughts on what and who inspires us.

First up for me is a knife from the Mathews Brothers (I hope you guys dont mind) This knife is simple and mind numbingly complex at the same time. I love it.

Next is the work of Roger Bergh. This guy just blows my mind again and again.

This is the kind of stuff that I aspire to but know is beyond me at the moment(maybe it always will be:( ) So what about you guys?

I'm personally inspired by Bruce Bumps cut and shoots. If I lived close, I'd beg him to let me apprentice with him!

2 words: Jay Fisher!

The stuff that guy does is gorgeous! He is what I look forward to improving towards in terms of filework, embellishing, etc.

Uh-oh -- could be a rumble! Scott I'm sure I won the lottery yesterday so I'll be quitting my job and moving in next to Bruce. Sorry about that. :D

As far as our forumites go, my heros are in no particular order: Raymond Richard for his incredible flowing design, Nick Wheeler for perfection of tradition and Bruce Bump for doing all those remarkable things no other human can do. I've seen each of these guy's work in person and there's no feeling quite like being in the presence of greatness.

But if there's anyone I "want to be," it's Hill Pearce. I don't think he's making any more, which is sad. But I think the world is a finer place because he made stuff like this, over and over:

Sorry for the size of the pics, they don't do this work justice. But it's all I have. Thanks for reminding me of the sources of my inspiration!

I went to 'Barnes & Noble' bookstore a couple days ago and bought "28th Annual KNIVES 2008" I had to stop every couple pages and let my heart rate slow back down!!! It has Bump, Fisher, Matthews, Berg(mentioned above) in it. Talk about inspiration!!!

Wow dave I dont think I know anything about Hill Pearce. That Khyber is fantastic. I am going to have to look him up.

William, I'll be happy to send you the pics I have. I think they're mostly by Coop but maybe a few others I've found around. It's remarkably hard to find any info about him, and I'd welcome anything anyone else can add. He just blows me away.

Gil Hibbens art knives and swords have made me go WOW since I was a kid, and still do to this day.

The knife in the bottom pic by Rusnak is fantastic. I think that even if you took away all the bling the basic lines would still stand out. I think the primary lines and proportions must come first. Often the details and "bling" can be very distracting. Its very easy to want to make things complicated and end up with a complicated mess.
