Knives that use CPM 3V (aka S3v)?

Reese Weiland does 3v. Here is a proto in 3v.

The strong point of CPM 3V being impact resistance It's not the ideal steel for a folder. CPM 3V excels in impactcutting, and that's not likely what you're going to do with a folder. On a folder I'd much rather see a stainless steel with great edgeholding capabilities like CPM S90V or CPM S125V ..

CPM 3V is not S3V, The S means stainless, and CPM 3V is not stainless.

What's nice about 3V is that it has both high toughness and good wear resistance. It has wear resistance almost equal to D2, a popular steel for folders.

It can also take a high RC. My Weiland folder is 63RC.

Mine will :D

Well... certainly I can't put myself even close to the makers that have been mentioned here ...I make knives as a hoby for a few years, making working knives for me and my friends mostly or even sell some of them from time to time. I have been using O1 and mostly D2 steel since it is not hard to get around here but since CPM steels became very desirable I have decided to try some

Recieved quite a piece of 3V a few days ago and it is now on the way for wire erosion cutting to slices. Can't wait to get some back and start working.

Yes 2x2x10! It costed me 180€ ... so around 245USD

But I realy didn't want to go off-topic with this.
Some Koster bushcraft knives are made in 3V, ZT 0100, some CR fixed blades, Krein is making some

K9 [Koster/Krein] Dingo is the winner for me ..I don't have one but I would want it one time ..with textured black G-10 please :D

Powder tool steel, Has toughness upward of 95 ft-lbs and still Rh>60.

No, I am not confusing it with the popular CPM S30V. The S3v has comparable Rh but 3x toughness, although its not stainless of course.

Where does this S3v keep coming from

You realise 3v exists longer than S30V?
S30V was an (not very good) attempt to make a stainless version of 3v.

Now 3v seems t0 be rediscovered (as it deserves)

Where does this S3v keep coming from
I was wondering too. Iv'e seen it few times around here, almost added as an alternate name into the steel chart, but no official source ever lists CPM 3V as S3v. I think because of Crucible's later names, S110V, S90v, S30v people think S belongs to 3v too, but it's not. S indicates stainless steels, and CPM 10V, cpm 3V, CPM 1V, etc are just that, no S in there.

Hey Gator,

I've another steel for the chart

NC6

C-1.3-1.4% Mn-0.4-0.7 Si- 0.15-0.4 P max-0.03 S max 0.03 Cr 1.3-1.6 Ni max 0.35 Mo max 0.2 W max 0.2 V 0.1 Cu max 0.35

sorry, i can't resist... CPM 3V is not S3V. The S would stand for stainless which it is not.

That being said i am looking for a 3V bushcraft. Probably wait for the the BRK Kephart or Bravo 1 in 3V
