Knives that you're glad you gave a chance

Todd Begg Steelcraft Kwaiken
When this knife arrived I first thought "no way will I ever carry that thing" I didn't even take it out of the box. The seller said I could carry it for a week and return it if I didn't like it!!
This is the best edc ever!!! The action on this knife is amazing. Like no other flipper I have ever had. Plus it disappears in your pocket. Best money I have ever spent on a knife!!!!
I have dcMartin to thank for that!

Gotta try that Kwaiken. Its on my must try list.

Know what's kind of a neat knife? The Swedish Barrel knife. Really unique locking knife.

Reate Horizon D CF/TI. The retail price made me hesitate for a while but then a good deal showed up on the Exchange. It is a big, beautiful, relatively light weight, and first rate framelock folder.

While I enjoy all of my knives, the Hinderer Halftrack is a knife I bought on a whim and man it has turned out to be one of my favorites. I don't see a time where I would be with out one. The Halftrack seems to be the perfect companion to my slip joints, it doesn't take up a ton of pocket space but feels like a large knife in the hand. It is also a great flipper, and a well built knife.

Knife that arrived today knocked me out! EnZo Necker 70. I really thought it was going to be too small but it works. The fit and finish on this knife is fantastic and the edge is scary sharp right out of the gate. My only issue is the sheath. It came with a Kydex neck sheath, but I rather get the leather sheath EnZo makes to wear on the belt.
Another is the Boker Tuxedo Kwaiken I recently got. Love it!

Anything from Benchmade, but more so with the Griptilian. Over the years I have bought a dozen+ Benchmades and sold them soon after. I Just never liked them, but would keep buying them thinking my dislike for them would change. Lately, they just clicked for me. The Griptilian and Mini-Grip are brilliant.

Agreed in full regarding the Benchmade Griptilians, particularly the mini's with the hole opener. Having toted small Sebenzas for years, I had written the mini Grip off as a budget folder. Man, was I misguided. Even at the increased price that they sell at today, the mini Grip is as popular a carry folder as it is for a solid reason. It's light, extremely ergonomic, stronger than it needs to be, fast to deploy and to put away, and gone are the days of waking in a cold sweat in the middle of the night concerned about losing the knife, late lockup, lock bar inserts, flicking, etc. The mini Grip set me free in a way... :)

Spyderco Gayle Bradley. Thought the blade shape was dumb looking and would not be so useful. Thought the hollow grind would be deep like most of the hollow grinds that I don't like. I wasn't excited about the blade steel (after all it wasn't a high vanadium CPM-SyadayadaV).
I was gloriously WRONG on every point.
So happy with that knife.
Why :
  • Blade shape feels really good for what I cut. Hard to define but just gets in there and gets the job done; good orientation in relation to the handle. Not awkward in the least.
  • The hollow grind is subtle and does not take over and guide the cut. Want to know what I mean by that ? Slice an apple with a hollow ground blade then put the slices back to back.
  • M4 blade steel; turned out to be my all time fav. Gets silly sharp, I don't need diamonds to sharpen it, holds most of that crazy sharpness a good long time. Heck I even enjoy the patina it takes on.
I'm glad I finally ignored my preconceived notions and listened to these guys. I would have missed out on a treasure.

Slyzs Bowie. I put it off for the longest time. Now it's one of my sheepdogs for the rest of the herd.

Clicked into this thread mostly to post about these two. And it reminds me I need another Slysz Bowie (and a SpydieChef). One other I'll add is the Medford Viper. It is a great knife to use, much more so than I would have believed.
