Knives to keep in stock

Where are you? I live in PA, near Philly. I would check your store out if you aren't too far.

I'm in Northeast PA. We have a little store in a little town... We are busy around hunting season and Christmas and slow the rest of the year. Our main business is sharpening. Although, I am trying to take over and expand the knife store... :D We've already practically doubled the amount of things we sell since I started in March. But they only opened the store last summer, so it's coming along.

What town in NE PA? I go up to the Allentown area a fair amount. I have a friend in Schnecksville. If you are out towards Wilkes-Barre, though, thats too far for me.

Flashlights may be a good addition, as was mentioned earlier. This field is rapidly evolving. The emergence of powerful LEDs on the scene is a revolution. These light sources are more efficient than incandescent sources, last essentially indefinitely, and cast a very even and highly legible light. There are many small and large manufacturers working hard to hit the right LED design. Visit http://www.candlepowerforums.com/, read some, and ask for advice on which manufacturers and models to carry.

I like lights that are tough, waterproof, simple, and take regular batteries. I prefer run life over brightness. A CMG Infinity lives on my nightstand. An Arc AAA is on my keychain. When I need to work hands free I pull on a Petzl Tikka headlamp. All excellent LED lights.

Best of Luck, Dave

Books with knife related contents. Some books I bought via the Internet were very disappointing. I would not have bought this books if I had seen them before.

Hi Ashes,

I really wish you lots of success. There was a little knife store in a small town not far from where I live. Business was slow for many years. THe owner decided to open a whole new fishing equipment section, eg rods, reels, and general tackle etc. Business went through the roof on both sides!!!!

My suggestion would be to expand your store from being just a knife store, to include other outdoor items and equipment. I believe you will invite a much wider patronage.

Oh and yes, please do stock all of CRKT's products. They are superb quality with a price to match. They also started to stock swords and cutlery....going very well indeed.

And don't forget the Victorinox Swiss Army Knives!!!!

Once again, all the best...

ThorTso, thanks for the advice. There is, however, a local sporting goods store that sells fishing equipment, and we are friends with the owners, so we don't want to invade someone else's territory, so to speak. We do sell other things though... We sell commercial restaurant and butcher supplies. Our guys also do repairs and carry replacement parts for meat grinders and slicers.

I'm really the first one who's taken the interest in expanding the sporting knife side. Because of where we are located, we tend to sell more cutlery and accessories (butcher blocks, cutting boards, etc.) But I haven't been here yet during hunting season, and I'm told we tend to sell a lot more knives then.

An update... I placed a big order yesterday... LOL, I'm like a little kid at Christmas waiting for all my new toys to come in. :D Got some new stuff to try... I also added some Sportsman's/Campers' axes and that kind of thing, just because I thought they looked cool. :) Yeah, yeah, I'm such a girl... :p Oh, and we already have a bunch of Leatherman and Buck tools, so I didn't need more of those, but thanks for the suggestion.

Slowhand, I am actually about an hour north of Wilkes-Barre. If you ever pass through a town called Honesdale, stop in and see us. :)

Glad to see such good responses to your initial post. I don't think you could have found another place to serve your needs as well as BladeForums.

Another suggestion:

Many of us here consider the SOG series of multi-tools to be superior to any other brand. I myself have been through Gerbers, Leatherman, and Bucktools. The one that is always on my hip now is the SOG Power-lock, they don't get any better than that imho. They others just have not come close for serious heavy-duty usage.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mongrel. I'll have to try those out. We don't have any SOG knives right now at all. I ordered some though because I wanted to try the ones with the arc-lock. Next time I'll probably order some multi-tools.

And yes, everyone here has been very kind and helpful to me! I came here initially to learn more about knives in general, but I'm getting addicted, LOL...

Why is it that the more you learn, the more there is to know and the more questions you have? I guess that's what makes the world go 'round... ;)

In case nobody else has mentioned it, the spyderench is a highly versatile tool. A little spendy but great gadget factor.
