Clipping a folding knife to a belt loop is something I might start doing since I don't wear belts and want to carry a folding knife sometimes in other ways rather than clipping it to the inside of my pocket.

What are some good folding knives with a built-in carabiner on them?

The best one I know of is the Spyderco Remote Release II. Full serrated VG-10 blade, FRN handle with steel reinforced clip hook. I just snagged a couple off eBay on sale with free shipping.:D

Not sure if you are a fully serrated type of guy or what your tastes are, but I'll throw the first idea out there.

Schrade also used to make their "Cliphanger" series. I have one and while it may not up to par with a Spyderco or some of the other forum favorites per se, it has served me well over the years and is tethered to me when I know the chance is good I would lose another knife. Always a good little worker, and I believe it only comes in a combo edge. I just picked up a new Endura and my stepdaughter begged me for the old Cliphanger, so I passed it downa few days ago. You can find them on Ebay, some retailers online, gun/knife show, etc.

Spyderco Remote release quickly comes to mind, still wouldnt make much sense to clip it to a belt loop though...as it'd be frustrating as hell to keep taking off, and putting on.

Possibly a nice neck knife, threaded on a chain or paracord, through the belt loop and deep in the pocket might be nicer??

Ooh, you are in luck! Leatherman makes what is called an Expanse. It has a 154CM blade, a foldout carabiner that doubles as a bottle opener (BONUS!) It also has a flathead and a cross tip screwdriver as well that doesnt get in the way. I plan on getting one soon.

That was the knife that got me thinking about this topic. The only thing is, I don't view the ET knife too much as a good EDC or utility knife. Seems to me it's more for novelty but I may be wrong.

For light tasks, it works out just fine.
You definitely don't have to baby it.

The Leatherman Skeletool comes to mind. It's blade isn't bad for one hand opening.

I'm with you on the carabiner/knife fetish. Its a sensible need but not often well designed or executed.

The worst case for this was one that A.G. Russell has in their catalog. It's called the Zak Safety Folder. Its looks like a good idea. It has a rear carabiner-clip that also doubles as the lock mechanism, and has a one-hand opening style blade. The problem is that when you one-hand open it all the way to the locked position, the rear clip/lock grabs the meat of your palm and painfully pinches it. Its an expletive-filled surprise the first time you do it.
To avoid doing that again you have to hold it away from your palm in a kind of acrobatic way with your fingers and it just defeats the purpose of using it all together.

I really like the Wenger SAK's that have a folding carabiner in the toolset. I have three different styles but the one I like best is the Zermatt (I believe it used to be called the Teton).

I've got the Remote Release. It is a royal PITA to unclip and use if on a belt loop. On the older LCE, it was a no-go because it flopped around and made noise. A proper pocket clip is far superior in application and use.

I have regrettably had to put all the carabiner knives in a category with large keychains, reversed clip carry outside the belt, and Ernest Saves Christmas tapes. I got rid of the Cat Diesel hat, and I never wear tree camo to work, so, I'm good to go.

+1 on the Skeletool CX... GREAT tool, and the handle is REALLY comfy when using the blade. I also looooove the screwdriver on it. It's overall ugly as all get-out, but my fav. Leatherman. One other thing worth mentioning is that where the blade grind meets the flat tang is in the path of the "ball" (thought its not a ball) and I have noticed that it is prematurely wearing the ball, and also causes a scratchy opening... FWIW...

I would also recommend a standard one hander (like the Griptilian) with a clip... if you don't wanna wear it on your pocket, then in the waist band...(IWB).
