That gitano is such a great knife...No fear of closing on the digits....

It's got some serious walking and talking compared to the action on most slip joints. It feels like I'm using a locking blade.

What is this?? Love it! Looking for a 3.5-4in knife to pair an Espada with.

Lion Steel Gitano slipjoint knife. It's got a Niolox blade and mine has micarta scales, but it also comes in G10, carbon fibre, olive wood, and Santos wood. It's designed by Gudy van Poppel and based on the larger Spanish Najava folding fighting knives.

Bolster are I think an evolution of something that was intended to hold the knife together.

The word “Bolster” refers to any part of a tool designed to provide structural support, so I’d say your thoughts are correct.
