knives with surprising quality

buck paklite skinner...I would put it up against an Izula or similar sized knife any day of the week. She does need a better sheath IMHO, but a very solid performer and a very comfortable shape :D I need to get a few more to keep in hiking packs for the wife and sister in law.

Kershaw Crown II for about $12. Decent fit and finish, shaving sharp, seems to be holding an edge well even with abuse.

Just picked up a Crown II myself this past week, ditched the pocket clip and took a few minutes of oiling and adjusting to get it feeling right; fingertip just tapped the edge while working the pivot and it sunk its teeth in - sharp bugger for sure. Some threads end up costing me hundreds, this one only cost me $15 and a drop a blood.

the CRKT Nirk Novo was surprisingly good for me. cheap cheap little knife, it has a lot of pretty harsh reviews out there but i got it for its innovative design and was actually pleasantly surprised. it came razor sharp, the lockup is rock solid, and its really comfortably thin in pocket.
It still has its drawbacks though, the blade steel doesn't hold its edge well, it doesn't open quickly or smoothly, and you can't disassemble it. still a pleasant surprise though.

I just paid $13 for a Kershaw Nerve (I think they're being discontinued so they can be had for cheap everywhere) and aside from a little side to side play, which might have been from the previous owner, it's surprisingly good for a $13 from China. The 3D machined G10 is fantastic!

I got A vintage SOG Air, no liners and backlock: pratically no weight but a real slicer, one of the sharper knives I have with a very edcable blade.
It's a pity that nobody care for knife and shape like this.

Ontario Joe Pardue Utilitac II Tanto Folding Knife.

Gotta say, this Ontario really surprised me. I thought I was holding a $100 knife, not a $32 knife. Fit and finish excellent, materials excellent. Only quibble is that I wish the blade steel was a bit better. Great work knife.

The Byrd Line Of Knives!!! I Knew It Had To Be Decent Being Made By Spyderco But They Are A Separate Company, So I Wasn't Completely Sure At First, Until I Handled One. They Are Great Knives.

Also The Kershaw Scamp, And The CRKT Drifter.
I would have to second the byrd line! I am very pleased with my cara cara 2, it has been my work beater for the last 9 months or so, and it has worked out very well. vault-like lock up, zero blade play, fit and finish is great, It is much more confidence inspiring in the hand then my endura 4 in frn, and it can be had for less than 30$. Of course my s35vn para 2 will be here Monday to take it's place at work, but I would definitely say I got my moneys worth and then some.

The way some people talked about CS, I didn't expect much at all. But they quickly became my favorite brand, and I have more of their products than any other brand

I remember not thinking too much of them either, just going along with things I heard and read from other people. The CS Bushman is an excellent product for the money. I thought I would take a gamble and pickup their Recon1 clip point. There is nothing bad I can say about that knife. Beautiful knife and rock solid lockup etc. I got to check out one on the "Kudu's"....I think I'm spelling it right. One of those weird but simple locks but for the price I was surprised, I need to pickup one of those.

Byrd Meadowlark. CRKT Wal Mart Ripple, bought it as a work beater and ended up liking it so much I got the Ti version too. I love that freaking knife. Meyerco ShockWave, nicest Chinee knife I've ever had.

Kershaw Scamp! Although it's not really a surprise, most Kershaws are great... but still, it really is outstanding for the price.

I've been spending 200+ on knives for so long, I forgot what they can do with just 30 bucks. I'm not a spyderco fan really, but i bought a persistence to leave in one of my vehicles for the off chance I don't have an expensive knife on me. I was really impressed with how much you get there. Steel liners, grippy G10, 4 position clip mount, good ergos. It's a whole lot of knife for 30 bucks. I actually wish spyderco made one with this same shape but with better blade steel, maybe some titanium liners, I'd probably buy one.

I traded for a used Spyderco Tenacious which I was going to use to learn how to sharpen my knives, never sharpened any knife before this one. I got it loved it, used it as an experiment for sharpening.. easily made it a razor and it became one of my favorite all around knives. It just feels natural in my hand and the blade is perfect size and angle.. just an all around great knife.

Spyderco Tenacious and Kershaw Needs Work surprised me at their quality for the money.
