Yes, Dremel. The way I've done it is to put the knife blade in a vice and freehand the wave cutout. I tend to like the less conspicuous waves (just enough cut out to catch the pocket but not ruin the blade profile), but you can see on the ganzo blades I leveled off the top edge.
The mods posted are interesting to me... Dremel? Kinda wondering how hard it would be to do that to a couple knives that I have since I don't own any waved production knives.

Maybe it would be good to leave more hook to the wave. That would also give more support to the thumb if I wanted to use it as a thumb opening device.

I would have thought of a sepate hook like appendix that would be bolted to the hole, made of steel or aluminium.
The wave-fu is strong in this one.
