Knives you bring when you go on vacation

If I'm flying my Sebenza stays at home and I typically check a slipjoint. We in Carmel CA for Thanksgiving this year so it is my small Insingo. I've already used it to do heavy work like slicing up cheese and a lemon. :)

They allow the leatherman aboard flights?

No, I carry mine in checked luggage. And if a reasonable lockback folder is allowed I will carry something inexpensive along with the Leatherman. I have a few older folders that I can carry and not be too hurt if they are lost or stolen. I suppose that is a good use for an Enlan or Byrd.

I intended to add this to the original post too: I don't do much business travel these days but I've made a couple of 1-day trips with associates under circumstances where I couldn't check bags so I had to go for the day without a knife.

because I lived in tropical paradise..
I carried a Leatherman ST300 (in my backpack), a Wenger Handyman, Opinels and Laguioles that I bought in France, last year - in my trip to France . I agree to bring 'cheaper' and 'common' knives but for me bringing a Leatherman is a must.

but I use my Spyderco Moran as my EDC in this tropical paradise.
If I have to do flights in which I couldnt take a checked baggage I carried one of my Leathermans and ask it as a security item which is addressed to pilot of the flight (check in counters in my country do have this service) and I shall receive it on the "missing luggage" office on the destinated airport.

Ahh I see... Most of my travels now-a-days are day trips for work... I don't usually carry either

My last trip to Europe, I didn't bring anything with me because I knew I'd be going to Spain and Switzerland. I picked up a couple of nice folders in Spain and carried those through Europe knowing that our border crossings would be on a bus...

The sad thing is that on my return flight to the US, the airline lost my luggage... never saw those bags again... never flew US Air again either...
