Knives you did not like in pics but loved in person

You checked out the new models ZT has released for 2018 so far yet? I have a feeling you may appreciate the 0462...

Yeah I just saw that. It's on my radar for sure:)

I'm an impulsive ZT buyer. One shooting store stocks them, so I generally go in and try to talk myself out of buying one. Usually the "it's cheaper than a gun and you can actually use it everyday!" argument wins out.

As a matter of fact, and fitting for this thread, the more I look at the ZT 055, the more I may pick one up. It's so unique and nearly grotesque and disjointed, but would be a really cool knife to carry from time to time.

In all seriousness, it's really nice. Sure it's a love it or hate it design, but in a way I consider it an oversized gentlemans folder, if not because of the design, there is something sculputural (is that a word :D? ) about it, that makes it a nice conversation piece and it doesn't look aggressive (to me, compared to say a DLC Manix 2 XL *cough* ) more like a SciFi movie prop. Most people / colleagues that have seen mine went "that's kinda neat looking, why does the blade look like that?" but not "OMG don't stab me". Plus the all uniform color makes for a decent canvas if you want to get it anodized.

Bahkahdi and Coke...might give in next week. I'm due for a visit to the shop. Bunch of doggone enablers. You'd think after over a decade and half I'd learn:p

Its not that I didnt like it per se but I thought the Yo2 odd looking - then I got one.

A great knife - kills cardboard boxes and opens mail like there is no tomorrow!

Liked it so much I bought another.

I wish they did a Yojimbo 3 (aka Yo2 XL with a 3.5 - 3.75in blade length), I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

Look at it this way, if all of your knife money went into booze or drugs you'd be practically dead after ~15 something years. So there is always that upside. :D:thumbsup:

The Manix 2. Was my first Spyderco and I got it because at the time the PM2 was no where to be found. How could so many glowing reviews be wrong? I thought it was hideous-looking, but took the plunge anyway. I now have several, and the LW S110V may be my favorite knife of all-time!

Custom Knife Factory Trekoza. Was hesitant about the scales but they work and the double hollow grind is 'alright'. Best ergonomics in any knife I have besides my 710D2 and 829 Marksman.

Well "can live with" and "like" are two different things, right? ;) I might give it a shot, but generally speaking I like 3.25+ blades, both because I just like larger blades and because larger blade usually equals larger handle which in my fat mitts is more comfortable. I went with a Manix 2 XL over a Manix 2, that should tell you something :D

Cold Steel American Lawman

Looked at pictures of them for a years and then there's the name, even as a former LEO, I was totally Meh!

Then, I tried one and OMG, where has this knife been all of my life???

Dandy EDC that's got grit. Value IMO.

Look into Ronin (fixed) or several Bastinelli
models, both folders and fixed (Dragotac, Assaucalypse etc) - theyll give you a run for your money in the lenghtwise department.

There is both a Dragotac and (fortunately) also a Compact Dragotac.

Caveat; I own neither of these.

Have you folks had knives that you saw pics of online or in magazines and you just knew it was never going to be the knife for you, then turned around and held it in person and instantly fell in love?
Yes since you mention it . . . believe it or not . . . the Gayle Bradley One. I thought the blade was thick, I don't care for hollow grind and to add to that the shape is funny.
I said I would NEVER BUY one of those !
Then I read about them. Then I looked real hard at the specs . . . hmmmmm . . . not very thick . . . hmmmmm the hollow grind is pretty subtle . . . how thin is it behind the edge ? OH ! ! !
Then I watched the vid by the designer (G. B.). Wow . . . he has brain (as Pooh Bear would say).
GB940Rookie . . . you had a significant hand in this as well :D

By that point I couldn't wait to get one and have NEVER regretted it.
Great Freekin' Knife ! ! !

(the top knife in this photo for those not familiar with this one)

I actually looked into them. If I pull the trigger I'll report back how many people ran away after I EDC'ed it for a day.

Manix 2. Didnt appeal to me until I felt it in hand. And eventually loved it so much I got the composite steel version sprint run.. (sorry about the crummy lighting)

I could never warm up to the look of the Kershaw Skyline's handles. Finally bought one a year ago and it sees more pocket time than any other knife I own.
