Knives you hated at first but ended up lovin’

Medford, for sure. I said some very nasty things about them here a while back. Now I carry Medfords more than any other brand I own.

I disliked beer... until I tried some more expensive beer and I liked it... then I tried craft beer and I was amazed.
So I realized that I do love beer, I just dislike bad beer.

About knives, I don't know.

Recently, I have always found the Cold Steel Voyager XL to be a gawdy and ridiculous knife. The massive and silly 5.5" folding blade, the overly long cheap plastic handle, the insistent Tri-Ad zealots that would spine whack the bejeezus out of perfectly good knives in order to tout the overbought locking mechanism, etc.

I had a couple bucks burning a hole in my pocket yesterday and my local knife shop had a PE clip point Voyager XL marked down. What the hell...I bought it.

OK, I'm going to eat crow. Not as refined as my edc CRK, but I can see the reason for the love. $70 folding pocket tank. Easy to sharpen, tough to break, and certainly has a cool factor.

Ill be testing out over the next couple of weekends.
I LOVE THE VOYAGER XL DUDE.

Gives you plenty of cutting edge without overly sticking out of the pocket. Just tuck out your shirt and you’re good.

Looks like you need about four Brock Lesnars to break that knife.

its great for gardening, same with the Espada

For one ..... coffee. I couldn’t stand the smell. Then in Ft. Knox we got a coffee pot that installed in the turret of the tank. My gunner made coffee every time we stopped the tank. Good coffee! Not the Army coffee! Needless to say.....I can’t live without it now!!
Great story! I'm glad the US Army allows it's soldiers to take care of their own comforts. I was in the British Army in the 80s and a British soldier never goes anywhere without the ability to make a cup of tea . At the time their main battle tank the Challenger was the only battle tank in service with facilities to boil water . There is even a story about US soldiers complaining about British soldiers "brewing up" (making a cup of tea) on one of the D-Day beaches once they had fought their way ashore. I think soldiers in any army value their comfort and do their best to achieve it way more than those outside the forces imagine.

Ah, this reminds me, when I was younger I strongly disliked tantos, I remember seeing them on e-Bay and thinking "why people buy that?"... little do you know my first real knife ended up being Recon Tanto and today I really love tantos, I even bought Warcraft Tanto.

they're actually quite useful if you tinker around with the shape and perform various cutting tasks with them, i was satisfied anyway, however, american tanto shapes are a hit and a miss for me, for example, Spartan Blades Formido, there was only one on BHQ and i had it in my cart but someone beat me too it, couldn't decide if the tip was too thin for me or not

Recon Tanto proved to be ideal for construction site where I worked back the, from scraping adhesives and other stuff to prying, punching holes through sheets of plastic... it's pretty good for industrial applications, also a decent chopper and excellent knife overall. I also like slight curve or sweep Cold Steel puts on their tantos, which makes them cut/slice better.

When I first saw the Blackhawk! CQD Mk1 E folding knife I thought it looked pretty odd and uncomfortable. Once I had it in my hand, the sweet opening, the ergonomics - everything fell into place.

I didn’t really hate them, but I didn’t really consider any knife made in China to be high quality until I actually owned a WE.

im open to a WE, just didn't fall in love with a model yet, also i get easily spooked if the reviews aren't mostly 4 and 5 stars, too many 3 stars i won't do it.
just my weirdness

I kinda dig that the knife comes with this teeny little clip. Then you pull it out of your pocket and it's massive blade.

Bigger, heavier folders. I still prefer thin and slicey knives, but I don't mind a pocket brick now and then.
