Knives you have and don't like

would anybody like to share what knives they have that they regret purchasing, acquiring, or are just disappointed in?

i'll start. :)

mine is a CRKT Denali (14K Summit Series)

not sure what i was thinking when i bought this thing a few months ago. it's super handle-heavy, the whole thing is extremely heavy for a folder (and it's geared towards outdoorsmen/climbers who would hate handle-heavy weight), and the toothy serrations that take up half the blade are horrible. i was attracted to it because of the modified clip point and the fact that i THOUGHT it was made of AUS-6. then i found out the blade material was changed by CRKT and mine was made of... 420J2. that really did it for me. i'm going to sell it or give it away as a gift eventually, or if i decide that's too mean to do to somebody who doesn't know any better, i'll have to find some miscellaneous uses for it.

your turn! :D

Spyderco Endura. I don;t when or how I acquired this knife, but I don;t like it. It's well made, but ill-conceived. First off, like most Spydercos, it's a lockback. Next, the entire blade is serrated. Maybe that's good for someone....not for me. I don;t hate it, I just don;t like it. It sits in a BOB somewhere, I think. I could find it if I had to.

As much as I abhor the idea of Benchmade making a "red DNA" knife overseas, and as much as I dislike their "red DNA" line, I would trade that Endura for one.

You could always do what I did to my Endura 3 I received in a trade. Ground the serrations right off, sharpened it flat to the main bevel like a Mora and now I have an excellent knife that is more usable for me.

My knife I don't like is my Ontario SP1. Top guards serve no function I can see, even with heavy stabbing being the dominant use of the knife, I don't like sharpened top edges (Isn't friendly with batoning), the handle began to rattle after a few minutes of chopping, the factory edge angle was more obtuse than I'd leave a large axe with and so on. Even after several modifications, such is dropping some glue into the handle, cutting off the top guard and flattening the sharpened top edge, the only time this knife sees use is when one of my friends need a large knife to whack stuff with when we go outside.

CRKT Blade-Lock 2. :barf: Bought when I didn't know anything about knives. I hate the feel, the materials, the fact that the lock makes it near impossible to open one-handed and gunks up with just about anything .... would sell it on EBay if i thought it was worth the effort.

StretchNM, you could always trade away your Endura in the Exchange forums. I'm sure there are people who would be happy to give you something else for it.

SOG Navy Seal 2000 - it cost me 6 stitches on my index finger.
CRTK Wasp and Spyderco Native I - very uncomfortable knives.

Thanks, Vassili.

StretchNM... i take it you're not a big fan of lockbacks in general? i always hear good things about enduras. i bet you could sell/trade it pretty easily. thanks for your info :)

Vivi... the SP1 is full tang, isn't it? good info there as i actually considered that knife or a similar Ontario one before. actually it may have been the spec plus USN1 or something like that, but something about the knife wasn't sitting well with me when i looked at it, so it's interesting to hear your experience

CRKT isn't doing too well in here already!

Vassili, just curious... the stitches--was that a result of that particular knife/sheath?

ThreeWorlds... i'm from philly too. nice to meet all of you here.

i have one of those gun-black ontario tantos. not sure what i was thinking. that shape of blade is of really no use to me. i like the weight but i dont really need a 10 inch blade. i have brought it camping though and my buddys have loved it for messing around with firewood.

overall it was pretty much $50 or so down the drain.

Sorry fella. To paraphrase, "I never met a knife I didn't like." :D

I got a S & W urban camo folder with dangerous handles that are slipperery.

I'm gonna take off the plastic handles and put some wood handles on it.

S&W extreme ops folder , gerber evo , ontario specplus land sea and air knife

:barf: :barf: :barf:

no edge retention or sharpenability at all, bad designs. I use them to clean the treads of my shoe whenever I step in doggy-doo :D
I guess I went through a mall ninja phase of extremely bad taste :barf:

and some stuff I made: nice looking, but I crapped up the heat treating :grumpy:

Most of my Bokers and pumas,I don't mean to put them down but I (and probobly only I)have had the springs on 2 puma lockbacks fall out just opining them. And a handle on a boker stockman come loose under normal (or less )use,as well as a huge chunk of buffalo horn of one of there lockbacks.

Once again, they make some good knives but I have had terrible luck with them.

Yes, guard is unsecure and actually deliver finger directly at serration - only part of this knife wich cuts. Otherwise it is just a prybar, which I guess may stand all that things listed in it's commertial.

Thanks, Vassily.

Im pretty happy with all my recent knife purchases so I cant really add anything to the list =P

I guess i could list my kershaw chive because it rusts but then again its a cheap knife so not a biggie. It is sharp and cuts well for a little knife so its okay

does S&W make any particularly good knives? out of all of their knives i've seen, i haven't been really impressed with any of them. noticed a few of you listed some models of theirs.

applejacks... anything w/ the sebenza itself or due to the cost?

and vassili, sorry to hear about that accident. i hope your finger is like new again. i bet that left an interesting scar

As I understand S&W all are made in China.

Sure even with serration it does not cut too much so it just scary me a bit, but nothing seriouse. Finger is fully operational and just decorated with this little scar.

Thanks, Vassili.

I have a few that I dont live anymore but i can always find some reason not to get rid of. I went through my collection about five years ago, took anything i really diddnt like and put it in a box and brought them to a party with a sign that said please help yourself, i made alot of folks happy.

Next time I do that I am going to make a special Blade forums Only Geocache :D

I bought it brand new with high expectations. It showed up impossible to open, and tough to close.. BEYOND what are considered normal perameters. I disassembled it, and it had some sort of green gunk on it. Basically, out of the box, it was not ready for use. And for over $300-... I shouldn't have to clean it over and over again and lube it for it to be good enough to use.

I purchased a CRKT knife a while back. It was so poorly made I threw it in the trash. I now equate them with other cheaply made junk knives.

This one. Can't explain why, it just doesn't do it for me. Too bad, I was excited to take it in trade.
Its a Stag Handled Damascus Upswept Skinner, with a Custom Treestump Leather Sheath (treated with Ruana's Montana Pitch Blend Leather Treatment) The blade is 4" and the OAL of the knife is just over 8". Still has the factory edge.
Its available. Email me!
