I am a fairly new knife addict :D I have several knives that I truly believe every one should have here they are (pics coming soon)
1. Kershaw scamp- everyone should have a cheap (fairly) good quality, tough, ergonomic folder that will whatever you would need a knife for.
2. Kershaw tactical speed bump- I think every true knife enthusiast should experience kershaws speedsafe AO that is also well priced, good looking, good handling, and SUPER Sharp
I believe every true edge head should have both of these because they are AWESOME! And both are likely to be seen as classics one day
Now I would like to know what knife (or knives) you think everyone should have and why

buck 110
Tenacious
ontario rat 1
kershaw skyline
swiss army knife victorinox
opinel
spyderco delica 4
griptilian

Benchmade 94x series. I think they really show what makes Benchmade knives great. The 710 comes at a very close second.

Spyderco Military and Delica/Endura series. Thinness and cutting ability.

Chris Reeve Sebenza, because it epitomizes everything a pocket knife should be.

Buck 110--it's a classic for a reason.

SAK. Cheap, reliable, and people friendly.

No such thing as "having" to own a knife. If you're a collector, collect what you like, not what people tell you. If you're a user, buy what you like using. There are a lot of knives that I've never owned and never will and it doesn't matter what anyone else has stated.

Sorry if this is coming off too harsh, I'm quitting smoking and am not being as tactful as I normally am.

I have been looking at Peter R. Knives work for some time now. I want to have a custom folder made later on, and I’m probably going to pester him about it later on.

You should have a Buck 110. It changed the knife world.
You should have a Delica. It's a classic in and of itself.
You should have a Benchmade knife with an axis lock. Pick one.
You should have a Swiss Army Knife (SAK). Pick one of those, also.
You should have a KaBar Marine knife. Because it is one of those all time classic designs you just have to have.
You should have a Buck 301, because it's bombproof and because it's a stockman.
You should have a Great Eastern Cutlery (GEC) knife. Pick one. Because the fit and finish is awesome.
You should have a Kershaw Needs Work. Because it looks so funky but works so well. It will widen your horizons about what a knife can be.

There hasn't been a knife mentioned yet that I want to own, much less have to own. Everyone has different tastes so I doubt you will get much agreement. The Benchmade Rift and Spyderco Paramilitary 2 are two I wouldn't want to give up.

There are no such knives. What is a treasure for one is a plain nothing for other.
I will not even venture to name a single knife other people must have. I do not think it would be appreciated - like I myself do not appreciate quite many of the knives already mentioned in this topic.
And I am not alone. As you can clearly see, there are very little overlap from man to man and basically no knife was mentioned in all the posts.

Sebenza
Kershaw leek
SAK
At least one Busse
Same for Case
A balisong
Buck 110

haha ed, you wont have to pester.............much.

plus 1 very true, a list of personal favorites from 50 different people cant possibly be helpful in making a knife buying decision. only one thing guides my knife buying decisions these days, its a golden rule of sorts and strickly my personal guidline. " if walmart sells it i dont want one" the rest is based on wants needs and what trips my trigger at any given time that the knife bug strikes, and i can gaurentee it doesnt strike when i pass by knives in plastic packages on a peg rack.

svord peasant really surprised me,you should have one because of historic design, historic price, and its just a dam good cutter.

We just had a topic similar to this pop up and I started aimlessly posting knives I think are historic/iconic off the top of my haed. After I posted, I started thinking, what would I by my son, when he becomes interested in owning a knife? I believe I narrowed it down to three:

Swiss Army Knife
Buck 110
USMC Kabar

I think that would be a great starting point and have his bases covered. If he truly develops a passion for knives after that, we can start on the discussion of one-handed openers, concave edges and more expensive knives etc.

What's wrong with sharing opinions on what knives we think are a must-have???
Folders :
1-Spyderco Millitary
2-GEC (any)
3-BM 707

Fixed:
1-Any Busse Chopper

I have to have a sebenza, because i'm obsessed with precision build quality and tolerances. Then i can proceed to buy other knives, if i didn't have a sebenza then that's the only knife i think about, so it's like a medication for me to have one. I have a large right now, and i'd like to get a small sea grass seb in the future, an umnumzaan, and a mnandi, but right now i'm not gonna bother since i have other expenses and i might just get other cheaper knives, like a delica 4 which is another must have, fortunately a cheaper one:D. The CRK's can wait just as long as i have one.

Busse ABA III, satin finish with snakeskin scales
Busse Terror Monkey Argonne Assualt
Horton Trench knife, hopefully a damn big one
Ban Tang BT-10 recurve (don't know if one has been made, but it looks cool in my head  )

Possibly a Treeman knuckle knife too, they're cool but I'd love to handle one first (been to blade the past 2 years, missed them both times :o )
