Knives you like, but theoreticly shouldn't

I have an old Ka-Bar Mule that I bought years ago. It sits in a box most of the time, but it does get out for use occasionally. This knife has noticeable weight when picked up, almost half a pound, and it has a utilitarian lack of grace that just says tool. It feels big and bulky when opened and the blade length is also rather utilitarian. Aesthetics seemingly were not a priority in this design. But despite, or maybe even because of it's tough no nonsense presence, I like this one. It just has plain old AUS8 steel but it is hollow ground and very easy to sharpen to a razor edge. The noticeable in hand weight, it's size and construction, lends a feeling of toughness and reliability to this knife. And the GREAT sheath is basically unique in this price range. There is nothing fancy or overtly attractive about this knife, yet the sum of its parts make for a nice tool. Many years later, I still like my old grip worn Mule.

Although I don't carry it much these days, I like the MULE and liked it enough to get an extra, even. Saw them on A.G. Russell years ago and somehow fell in love with the length and weight.

I saw a "Pry-Bar" from TOPS knives. Ridiculous thing that looked cool to me. Not cool enough to buy it since I know I won't really use it but, dang it, that stupid thing looked cool.

Anything good for quickly opening coconuts. I don't much care for coconuts, but they're fun to open, plus plenty here in Hawaii.

I have a pink folder from Ka-Bar that i have worn for the last 6 years... love it! it cuts well, and has served me well, but i take a lot of flack for carrying a pink knife.

it did get me out of handcuffs once in kansas so i do have that to love about it.

The Microtech Socom Elite. I don't like tip down carry, nor do I care for aluminum handles but I'll be damned if that knife isn't one of my favorite folders.

I need to hear more about this. Please tell me the offer was female. Even if that's not true.

I fell for the Mule only yesterday. But my true love is still the Wildsteer WX and my mistress the RatWorx MRX tanto.

I think you will enjoy it! I sometimes see it sold in blister packaging without the rubber inserts but I don't think it looks as good that way.

It doesn't say Bear Gryls on it anywhere does it....?

I'm big on inserts.

Maybe on the package itself? It's been awhile since I have seen one, but I don't think they put that anywhere on the knife for sure. Also, this version does not come with the belt pouch.

I feel similarly about a MT Socom Delta I picked up - G10, tanto, CTS-204p - I don't care for MT as a company but darnit they make a good folder.

Couple that don't make sense. I generally don't like metal handles, assisted opening, frame/liner locks, and overbuilt knives, yet I own:
ZT0801
Brous Bionic
Benchmade 585 Mini Barrage
DPx HEAT

I don't like the feel of aluminum grips either, and will not own a MT. Perhaps they are good knives; I'll never know. :)
I know that good folks like them...and that's fine.

My Kershaw JunkYardDog 2.2 is the bum of the litter, but it surely works well when I have rough work to tackle. The clip looks like heck, but once you get past that, it does do the job and holds its edge.

Not sure if this is what you are after but..
My Mora Clipper in army green and black. It's my beater/abusive use knife for years and years. Cost me about under 8 euros back then. I do use all my knives and without hesitation, but when I need "cutting" that "destroys" the edge, I use this one. Then I restore it back with moderate ease. I have come to the conclusion that I should do same thing with any knife, because they can do it too.
So why do I like it? It's nothing special. It's shallow mass produced plasticy knife.. but it just damn does the job! It has lousy sheath, but I added extra retention strap from paracord and cord lock. When I need some "don't mind if I lose it" knife that doesn't weight anything, I choose it.

It's just so damn good knife!

It's too big, too heavy, the blade shape is, aesthetically speaking, not my cup of tea either. That said, the pure functionality of the 300/301 is tough to deny and I love it. Friday is supply day in my shop, and that means a lot of opening packages/boxes. I generally grab one of these when I get dressed on Friday mornings.

The ZT-9 serves no use to me at all, but being an AR15 guy, I love it for what it is.

Another one I like is the M16-03Z by CRKT. Not an expensive or "hard use" knife, but the one I own has been a wonderful EDC blade...could not recommend it more to people who just want a usable $30-40 knife.

i got into an altercation on the sidewalk after leaving one of the bars while waiting for a cab where some guy got into my face and was threatening... long story short, he took a swing but i ended up coming up on top and almost taking it too far, but luckily cooler heads prevailed and i turned to walk away instead of hitting the gentleman again once he went down and fetal. which was lucky for me because a police man was heading right for me when i turned and i found myself in handcuffs immedately and on the receiving end of some serious questions and a search.. in which one of the policemen immediately zeroed in on my knife, hollering "he's got a weapon" which of course became the main target of the questioning from that point out. when he asked me about it, and i quote "why do you have a knife... and why is it pink?" i played the naive canadian and told him every man carries a knife as a tool and i was sorry that i was unaware of the laws, and that the knife was a gift from my mother who was a breast cancer survivor and i always kept it on me as a reminder (slight fabrication.. she is, but i bought the knife so it would be easy to find when i dropped it in the woods). He told me that things were different around here and that in the big city there are people who would possibly use this agains me as a weapon... to which i appeared shocked (as a canadian) that it could even be a possiblity and he assured me that there are bad people in the world and i shold be more careful. luckily again the other guy was being very beligerent and hollering obscenities at me while i was in handcuffs while i remained respectful and the police officer ended up seeing that i was only defending myself and that since i hadn't used the knife i obviously wasnt trying to be a criminal. this led to the other guy in handcuffs for attacking me and the police telling me the best place to get breakfast at 4:00am.

Sketchy stuff rustyrazor...

Similar bar front brawl where a person I know was defending himself against a drunkard who came out after being kicked out and wanted to fight something, but when they got on the ground the other guy's hand was magnetic in grabbing out our friends flipper and immeadeatley started trying to stab his throat. If it wasn't for the amount of people on the street, he might not be here today.

Nough gloom, my favorite is the GSO 10. Thickest knife I own, but makes for one heck of a nose to tail butchery tool.

I love the 0300, it is heavy, bulky, and doesn't always go over well in an office full of prudish people. However, the ergonomics, blade shape, and cutting ability make for an excellent day of cutting stuff. Heck, you can even pry stuff if you are so inclined. The scale on that 0300 is absolutely terrific.
