Knives you used in Boy Scouts

So what kind of knives did you use in Boy Scouts? What kind did you carry? A small fixed blade or a folder? And if you weren't a Scout what would you have carried?

Had a few knives back then but only ever made it to cub scouts, we didn't have very good troops in my area. I had a knock off buck 110 and a "survival" knife it was one of those fixed blades with the compass and gear stored inside the handle lol I think I bought it out of the back of Boy's Life magazine if I remember correctly.

Standard Scout Boy Scout knife from J.C. Penny. Abused the heck of that playing mumbly-peg, etc. Lost it when mowing the neighbor's lawn. My sister, who bought that house about two decades later, found it in a window box, rusted beyond recovery, alas.

I also had the standard economy red Imperial, most guys I know had these since they were the most affordable model. I got that in cub scouts, and its in my glove box today.
In Boy Scouts I had a bunch of Fury branded cheapo's that I broke, then I got into Kershaw Scallions, a Gerber Gator and Gerber multitools until I hit Eagle and aged out. No fixed blades in our troop. If I had to do it all again, I'd go with an ESEE 3 and a leatherman wave. From what I hear most troops these days are doing less and less bushcraft type stuff, and some even ban knives unless supervised...Big change in the 10 years since I was in.

Camillus Stockman. BF wasn't around in the 60s so I didn't know I needed a ZT to whittle neckerchief slides. ;)

Cold steel recon 1
SOG trident
SOG seal pup elite
Didn't use them much
Don't care much for any of those now.
Also carried a Gerber multi tool and used it tons and I still carry a Gerber multi and use it all the time at my job

I remember using a Imperial Boy Scout folder, with spoon & fork.
Not as a scouter I use a leatherman, buck vantage pro ,small fixed blade. My son used a vantage also.

Very much the same here, no dads in the area to help out. I had a SAK from the boy scout supply store and a beatup buck 110 from a garage sale

As a scout, small SAK (long lost, not sure which type exactly).

As a scouter - CRK Small Regular Sebenza and a Leatherman Wave. I would lend the Wave, but never the Sebenza.

Used is a strong word. Had a SAK, don't remember the model. We did a lot of camping, but knives almost never came into play. The most I used a knife in Scouts was to demonstrate I knew proper knife safety and get a totin' chip.

I used a hatchet or small axe fairly often to split wood, though, so I suppose there's that.

If I'm ever in the Boy Scouts I'll let you know.
What's a Boy Scout ?
I had a guy who worked for us who said he had been in the Boy Scouts. The way the thing went was :
Will you sharpen my knife for me ? I said " You should learn to sharpen your own knife. Buy a stone and I will help you". "If you like I can recommend one".
He said "We learned how to sharpen knives in the Boy Scouts".

He never bought a stone and I never was able to help him.

So . . . you knew it was coming . . .
How many Boy Scouts does it take to sharpen a knife ? ! ?

The first folder I had was a Cub/Boy Scout was a small peanut, probably an Imperial, well used by either my father or grandfather before I got it. Still have it somewhere in a drawer.:)

My first "dedicated" scout knife was one of the Camillus 4 blade all metal scout or military demo knives. It's with the peanut in the same drawer, again somewhere.

My first fixed blade was a Western L46-5 given to me when I was 10 by my grandfather. I carried that knife as well as the Camillus on every campout and summer camp. It went to Philmont 2x, but not to Canada for the Charles L Sommers Wilderness Canoe base trip. I know exactly where that knife is kept.:D

The story behind being given that knife is located at "post #12" in this thread--

I need to find the other 2 and get a "family" portrait.

The Wenger. It's over thirty odd years old, at least. It's unusual in that the blade has a lock, you can see the release button on the scales.

I thought I lost it recently, hence the presence of the spartan above it, but my wife, bless her soul, found it for me.

My brother, also in the Boy Scouts, had one of those Rambo hollow survival blades, you know, with a bolt effectively securing the blade to the hollow handle. I was jealous as hell until we both discovered how crap it actually was.

I had a japanese camper folder with screw driver/bottle opener, blade, can opener, spoon and fork. It was in the pack. I carried a Western BSA bird and trout as my main knife. Bought with my own money, first one ever. If we weren't backpacking, a Gutman bowie with an ~10" blade my uncle, a cop, took off a kid. They only complained about the bowie when I brought it to a camporee :) We had no knife restrictions and we knew about knives before becoming boy scouts.

When I was in Scouts it was sak's and Buck 110's. The occasional scout knife or oldtimer, but only the truly dorky kids had those. When I went to Philmont I got the large sak with the locking blade. Don't know the model. Nowadays my son is using a customized Kershaw thermite. I take my Manix lightweight with as an adult leader.
Edit: this was the one that went to Philmont. (Not my pictures)

I had the common Cub Scout knife with the blue scales. Don't remember what brand. This was back in the sixties.
