I can think of a few knives that fit into this category, as I’m sure other posters can too. Perhaps, more than any other though, is an Al Polkowski knife I never saw. I loved the look of Al’s knives from the moment I first saw them just a few years ago on Bladeforums. It was my 50th birthday the other year, and unbeknown to me, my best pal, who also loved the look of Al’s knives ordered me one for my birthday, and a matching knife for himself. A few weeks before my 50th came, my friend phoned Al to see how the knives were coming along, only to be told that Al had sadly passed away. So here’s to a great American knife maker, whose knives I never got to use. RIP Al Polwowski.

Obviously, this was a knife I never had, maybe you have a similar story, or maybe you had a knife that meant something to you that you lost. So what are the knives you wish you’d got or still had. Please not just your ‘must have’ shopping list!

Cheap Barlow I got from my Grandma when I was 8 or 9. A small Queen fixed blade fishing knife, also from childhood. No idea where either one of them went.

Just about every knife I've ever traded or sold away, I'll wish I hadn't later. Too often I've bought one of the knives again, only to resell it again. A few that come to mind now that would be difficult to replace: Non-blem Volt, G10 Endura, Ocelot, and a reground Sere 2000.

Spyderco Kiwi in jigged bone. I broke it.
Don' t ask me how, it was completely my fault and probably the stupidest thing I EVER did. But well, I was alot younger then and had just really gotten into knives.
Ahh, how I miss that knife:(

I traded a mint, vintage Puma White Hunter one rainy day about 15 years ago. That decision was a poor one! I would venture to guess that all of us have made similar errors on and off the trails of life. One thing is certain: you can't keep every knife you ever bought.

I don't miss any of the knives I've sold, but I do miss a little pocket fixed blade that was stolen from a store I used to own. It wasn't the maker's finest work, he's improved a lot since then and I've got a few of his knives, but this one fit my EDC needs beautifully.

My grandfather gave me a Kershaw back when I was in high school, but someone stole it. I really wish I still had that in my collection; it was my first real knife. The first real knife I bought for myself was a Spyderco Delica, and I lost that one in a restaurant. I went back the next day to ask if anyone had turned it in, but no joy.

This list would be really huge if I remember all the ones I miss

a small schrade old timer that used to belong to my wifes grandfather. its somewhere in a swamp in virginia.

I traded 3 great knives for one single knife that I promptly lost.

Traded
Kershaw ZDP-Leek in Titanium frame lock
Benchmade Mini Skirmish
Spyderco Native in S30V

for:
Spyderco Kopa Gold-lip Pearl

Yeah, what was I thinking... I later picked up another Kopa GLP for $150.

A schrade old timer back when they were still made in the U.S., I snapped the tip when I was younger and I chunked it. Also the 6-7 Leatherman Micra's I lost at a rate of 1 per year. Haven't had the heart to buy another one b/c I know I will lose it.

I haven't lost any knives yet and if I sold or gave them away it was for a good reason. I'm a young pup when it comes to knives so sooner or later I'll feel the pain.

Benchmade Infidel, bought it from a guy in a bind for $100, bnib. Stupidly traded it for a knife sharpener I did not need. Traded the sharpener for a Spydie Moonglow Manix first run, nib, my dumb ass sold that too. the rest of the knives I aquire over $200 are staying in my collection, I regret getting rid of every knife.

Interesting answers. Thanks for sharing. And I feel your pain! :)

Those two clip point first 300 Battle Mistresses Busse ever made. Both were mint condition, and now worth a pretty penny.
