Knives you would buy were it not for . . . . .

I'd buy more Spydies if they would get something really new in design.
I'm tired of the "hole". I'd like just a smooth opening flipper where the blade is left alone, clean.
The Mili would make a nice flipper.

My rusty, ugly clip, assisted non locking Kershaws and Case/Queen slippies have been doing me fine.

At least a few nice switchblades if it were not for laws making them illegal to carry here.

For me its being out of production or the chisel ground on the knives.

The chisel ground is not a big deal because it can be easily fixed but still it's annoying

For me with my big paws it's small handles. JYDII, almost fit...... BM 710, almost fit.............. so many great knives. :( I know they size them for average hands. That's my knife bane... or serrated blades. Don't like'em. Give me plain edge any day.

I hate serrations
AA is also a deal breaker for me.
I can be picky about pocket clips. I too don't like the clip on the bm mini skirmish. However, although BM regular clips are ugly, i find them highly effective.
Also, im tired of recurves. Its one of the major reason i went for the sebenza. It just has all the stuff i like. Solid geometry, nice solid clip, and I have a soft spot for titanium. Although axis is my favorite lock, frames are a close second. I just love the way the lock snaps on em:)

I'd buy more Bumps if not for the singular clip down option,

I'd get an LFTi if it had double thumbstuds and clkip up,

I' try out more SOG's/ Clold Steel's if they used things other than AUS-8

The custom shop idea sounds good esp. if a two or three people already here on the boards who do the mods could get togethers to make a one stop shop of knife mods.

It would seem that serrations are a compromise that many make for the otherwise appealing style and function. A 50/50 blade never worked for me. Either fulled serrated to cut line all day or PE for all the other cutting chores.

The trend for manufacturers to have half serrated knives seems to come from a perceived "tactical" application, whatever that means. From a military standpoint, knives are used to open MREs, cut 550 cord, and other rather mundane tasks. How many folks needed a serrated knife to cut 550 cord?

I don't buy the story of a serrated knife not needing to be sharpend for longer periods of time. What is the most commmon complaint, serrations are hard to sharpen. If they are harder to sharpen in the field what is the payoff of having it in the first place? Again, if cutting fibrous material and line is your MOS, than by all means, have at it!

Well, there's my silly rant on another meaningless subject when the whole world's eyes are on Harlem and the passing of MJ.

Studs and thumb ramps.
Studs are usually placed way too far out on the blade, they get in the way, and then I have to grind them off. Or not get the knife.

Thumb ramps seem like they're usually made for people with really small hands. Maybe I just like to stretch my thumb out more than most people, but it usually sits on the pointy top of the ramp, rather than on the ramp itself.
Unless you have a very long thumb ramp (BM 14205, 760, Kershaw ZT0200) the knife would be better off without one (like the Buck Bravo I just bought).

The Umnumzaan is a perfect example of a knife that does just about everything right, but I'm worried the thumb ramp isn't long enough.

The dam holes in the blades. Ug-lee! Come up with a few new designs (they all look alike) and I'll give em a try again.

Ah! forgot about this one! I'd buy a lot of emersons if it wasnt for the chisel grind.

I'd buy more stuff if they came in lefthanded versions.

Not ambidextra's LEFThanded.

I get pretty sick of the fact that everytime I see a knife I like for a price I like the damn thumbstud is always on the wrong side.

You'd think that with somewhere around a quarter of all people being lefthanded you'd see more lefthanded knives.

I would buy another Military and Para if they would make them for tip up carry.
And also making the clips to match the slabs would be great.
For instance the black clip on my FG PARA looks like crap, and is in the wrong place as well.

I would buy more spidey folders if I wasn't terribly spoiled by chris reeve fit and finish. It's hard to go back to anything else! Spydercos are supremely functional and I recommend them to everyone who asks. When it comes down to folder buying time though, somehow all my funds go towards crk

Ahh, the joys of diverse opinions - dealbreaker for me is holes in blades. I'll take a combo edge on certain knives if the design is good, but I just can't get past that missing steel.

Zero Tolerance 300 line. AO only is a deal killer for me. I wish they would at least put a dimple or hole in the blade to hold it closed if AO spring is removed as they have on the Blur.

No particular feature is a "deal breaker" for me. A good design can overcome about any "bad" feature except for price. If I think the price is too high for what the knife is, I am not buying no matter who made it.

Some design features that come to mind that are harder to overcome concerning consideration for purchase of a knife are: wharnecliff blade, liner-lock, frame-lock, AO, cheap steel, serrations, esoteric fasteners, and too many fasteners.

No serrations. No AO. No recurves. No 440a. No sloppy fit and finish. No chisel grind. No high price tags (unless you want to buy them for me). No junk.

I'll take a nice plain edge working knife, thank you.

Right-hand only knives--that's why Emerson is off my radar. Best companies for ambidextrous (or lefty friendly) are Benchmade and Spyderco. Is it so hard to put holes for a pocket clip in a few places? And is it so hard to make the knife deployment feature (whether it be a hole, stud, or disk) easily accessible on both sides of the knife?

I thought this thread was about knives, not about how you think the world is a poorer place without a Pedofile.

That isn't even my biggest problem with that series. Is it so hard to make BOTH sides of the handle the SAME color? It doesn't look "tactical," it looks mismatched. Tigerstripes? I'll admit they can be tempting but just give me a black or uncoated blade please. Their TAD Gear edition is the only decent looking one.
