im speaking to those canadians on the forum who have ordered a knife from www.knivesshipfree.com it sais shipping to canada is only $5. but in past orders i have been charged very large custom fees. so i am wondering if there are any hidden fees that will pop up on me. also, is it difficult to get a knife past the border? i am about to order a knife but i would just like to know as much as i can about this website before i empty my wallet. thanks a bunch everybody.

sorry if this is in the wrong forum

you may have to pay taxes on them. Pretty sure the ship usps, but if it was UPS you would get brokerage fees. so double check that

as far as shipping a knife past the border it's fine unless it can be flicked open, is an auto, or balisong. you can probibly request that they tighten the pivots down.

what knives?

i guess i made it seem like i was spending more than i am. i am only getting a brkt bumble bee. but to me that is a very large price to pay for one knife

Trading, buying, selling, and dealer evaluations go in the FEEDBACK forum, otherwise known as The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, where I moved this from the General Knife Discussion.

You also might check on the Canadian forum for dealers on your side of the border who have what you want. I understand there are some reliable vendors there.

I buy quite often from Derrick(KSF) and I rarely pay customs fees but if you do it has nothing to do with him. I buy alot from the states and I would say that 1 package out of 10 gets fees...it's a roll of the dice...) btw Derrick is great to deal with. Cheers!!!

I just received my first order from knivesshipfree yesterday. I have purchased dozens of knives from the US from other vendors.

First and foremost Derrick and Wendy are excellent to deal with, top notch committment to customer satisfaction. So no concerns at all with KSF.

The value of the order was $350 and I was not charged tax or duty... this time.... I have found in the past it is hit and miss with Border Services as to whether or not they assess tax and duty. I always factor in about 10-12% on the purchase price for tax and duty, and consider it a bonus if I'm not charged.

There will be no problem with shipping a knife accross the border so long as it is not a restricted item. All fixed blades are OK, so no problem with the Bumble Bee. Balisongs, autos (switchblades), and gravity knives (any folder that can be opened with a flick of the wrist), will be confiscated.

One thing to be aware of is that KSF ships very quickly, same day or next day, but delivery takes a long time thanks to postal service and border services. My order that I received yesterday was 15 days from ship date to delivery date.

This is not unique to KSF, any low cost shipping option out of the US is slow.

Purchase from KSF with 100% confidence , but don't get bugged out if the item takes awhile to arrive.

The Bumble Bee will be no problem getting through Customs.

It's not quite true that all fixed blades are OK to import into Canada. Push daggers, belt buckle knives, knives with knuckle duster guards and knives with blades less than 30 CM that are disguised as something else, such as a sword cane or pen are all prohibited from entering Canada.

Thanks for the kudos guys....

We have had shipments to Canada go in as few as 4 days. It is crazy the variance.

Always Post Office to Canada--UPS kills everyone on brokerage fees.

I've ordered from KSF a bunch of times and have been happy each time. Shipping can be slow but that's the post office / customs. As said, BRKT bumble bee will be fine going through customs. You might get assessed GST and a handling fee if they open the package.

Yes, very true, thanks for clarifying that Keith, not sure why that slipped my mind while posting.

FWIW,

Received another knife this morning, from DLT trading not KSF, but that isn't releveant.

This item was valued at $171, including shipping costs. I was assesed $8.56 GST and a $5.00 handling fee, no duty. total $13.56.

It looks like they charged you GST on the shipping cost. They aren't supposed to do that. However, it would amount to so little that it isn't worth going back to them and complaining.

i'm sure the site will be up soon--have ordered a few times from knivesshipfree and service is outstanding:D

Yeah, I wasn't sure about that, I assumed shipping was a service so GST would apply. Although the shipping originated in the USA??

But you are right, no sense arguing over a $1.

the website isnt working right now.
i am slightly worried.
please tell me what is happening!

Derrick (KSF) has installed a new server system and enhanced his software. They have been experiencing a few glitches (can you imagine? a computer screwing up, unheard of:eek:). Last we heard, he thinks they have most of the problems worked out but there may be an occassional outage over the next few days to fine tune things.

HEY! Thanks for updating people! Kevin is right on. We have pumped up the server and it should be back up for good later tonight.
