Really had a great time at Knob Creek. The only thing is now I want a "black rifle". I've got a really good Mini-14, but there seeme to be a yen for another .223.

What is a good AR15 clone? I've shot just about all other rifle styles, but never before gave these a second look. I don't need a 1MOA at 300yard rifle, just something to go plinking with.

I know there have to be some HOGS out there that can give me a direction to go.

Thanks for any help, bros.

Rock River or Bushmaster. Heard there's going to be some for sale at the INFI 1500 the first weekend of next month:rolleyes:

I have to go with Bob's two suggestions. The only one I might add, is an HK 93.
  Very nice but only if I'd bought one 15 yrs ago cause I sure can't shell out the $$ for one now!!! I know the clones are out there but if it's not original H&K I wouldn't trust it.
Besides the money I save by buying an AR means more money for INFI;)

I've got Rock Rivers, Bushmasters, and a DPMS. I bought a couple of stripped lowers at Knob Creek to try my hand at building my own. I have never had ANY trouble with any AR I've ever shot. AR15.com is the best resource on the web I have found for the black rifle, check it out Chuck.

I hear ya! I lost a tremendous amount of weapons down south, years ago. Amongst them was an HK 94, several Mini-14s, a couple SA M1s and more Colt 1911s and revolvers than you could shake a stick at. I never have been able to replace those. But I wouldn't own any knock offs. Personally, an M1A, a Mini-14 and a 700 BDL are all I really want in long guns (Well, maybe a Barrett 82A1).

Back on track though, I have also heard good things about the DSA SA58s. I haven't shot one, but I have heard reports from the range.

I like Bushmaster for a trouble free first rifle. I too have owned Rock River, Colt, Olympic, Sendra and others... the Bushy is good to go, and is my favorite, right now. An AR goes good with Busse, also! :D

Don't forget about colt and stag. Colts are more expensive but theyare the original. Stag has every bit the quality of a RRA or Bushmaster.

I don't think the words "really good" and "Mini-14" should ever be in the same sentence.

For a really nice plinker, that will not cost you very much, spend a little bit-o-time at ar15.com, specifically on the AR discussions forum and the For Sale forums (there's some good guys on that board, just ignore all the bozos and BS artists...).

My recommendations as follows:
1) For the lower: Denny's Guns, GTS, LLC http://www.globaltactical.com/
His lowers are made for him by CMT/Stag - one of the best in the business. A complete lower, ready to go is a whopping $264 shipped.
2) For the upper, again, I'd go with Denny, as he'll put anything you'd like together for a really good price. The only specific thing I'll suggest regarding the upper - go with a mid-length gas system - mo better!

Denny's Guns is a real pro - and no, I am not affiliated.

Hope this helps and you're obligated to post pics when you get it:D !

You might look at one of these.

Compact and fully ambidextrous, the FN2000 is a great new rifle that uses standard 30 round AR mags.

I knew somebody would open up their pie hole and spout off crap like that. :thumbdn:
So it's been done. Now get over it

Buy yourself a Stag Arms stripped lower... you can get them under $100. Then build your own rifle... complete instruction on http://ar15.com you'll have it exactly the way you want it if you do it yourself. I've built several for myself and my friends.

The new Sig 556 that is coming out this year looks promising.....

Try next yeaar, God willin' and the river don't rise. Last I heard, they've pushed the release date back from August of this year to mid-winter or maybe spring of next year.

As for ARs, you're not likely to go wrong with Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt, Rock River (just make sure you specify a chrome lined barrel, which is not the same as chrome moly) or CMT/Stag. But I'm sort of partial to LMT. If you shop around a bit on AR15.com, you can get an upper and a lower configured the way you want them and snap 'em together.

Or get a stripped lower like Raden suggested. I've done that several times and I can attest that there's nothing complicated about it, and you might save a bit off buying a complete rifle.

Funny cause it's true. ;) I would love to own one of those FN2000. I would prefer it in 7.62 tho'. I need to find a better state to live in. Kali sucks. IMHO FAL is the BEST black rifle.

You can find many opinions and pics on www.ar15.com.

IMHO, after having shot many different brand name AR's I feel you can't go wrong with any of the brand names.

I also feel many of the pieced together rifles, for the price, are great values, but don't recommend those to anyone since someone will be screaming bloody murder. :D

Each brand name has its ups and downs.

I personally would not give more than low $1,000's for an AR package with accessories since many, many people simply do not shoot enough to realize the value and accuracy of the AR's that are custom built and cost upwards of $2K.

Whether anyone likes it or not, the basic, properly assembled and tuned, fed with good ammo, and backed by a competent shooter is a deadly, accuracte, and reliable package that can be had for under $1,000, and certainly around $1,000.

Let us know what you wind up with. Pics are mandatory.

Just don't get one in black. I am sick of that color. :barf: :D

I really dig the HK 93--and think Armalite is not a bad choice either--But have been thinking hard about a Barrett Arms6.8 not to mention the 50 cal mentioned earlier. But that is a whole different animal--nevermind.
