Knock off SOG's

I guess all these knives are made with the same poor stainless steel!:jerkit:

Sweet mother... How do I know if the SOG knives I'm eyeing on e-bay are the real deal? Are these knives old SOGs? (Except for the Seal K w/o serrations :jerkit:)

Look familiar?

SOG isn't all they're selling either. On their web site you can find Gerbers, Colts, Bokers, Cold Steels, Extrema Ratios, Benchmades and even Chris Reeves' !

None of those knives are made on the mainland. These are pure copies of knives made in Japan and Taiwan. It is a shame but it is bound to happen to almost any company.

I was just telling a friend the other day about how China copies EVERYTHING !
Whatever hobby im into , theres cheap Chinese carbon copies.

RC cars
Knives
Computer equipment
Music Instruments
Clothing
They even cheapen glass now ! Raw Chinese glass materials are replacing and sometimes being sold as German Schott glass. Grrrr !

Its one thing to make a carbon copy of an item and sell it as that. A "clone"

Its another thing to bootleg and put a companies name on the knife. Just despicable. I would find out who hosts their site and go after them. Sometimes its successful in getting the page ripped down.

I tend to think that companies who are victim to Chinese copyright and patent infringements would go after those companies to shut them down. People (at least some Americans I know) are concerned that China may be the leading world economic power in the future, but if they plan on getting there by ripping off and copying other products illegally, that's just not right. I hope SOG gets to the bottom of this.

Hopefully SOG can do something but these people are hard to take action against since they are located overseas

Unfortunately for us all; I don't believe there's much that SOG or anyone can do to stop this kind of thing. China's government could give less than a damn about patent/copyright infringements along with a multitude of other laws, not to mention basic human right laws.

What goes around comes around. Botswana has virtually no copy right legislation and until recently the local populace has been happy to get cheap knock offs. With the high failure rates of knock offs they have been seeking better quality and getting the same junk in better packaging. Surprised at a newly proposed law wrt knock offs?

Ripp off a knife design and all you have stolen is the here and now, to sell to the marginals. It does damage both ways. My colleage used alternative (aka pirate) car parts that failed causing an accident. Some pirate parts are excellent but in his case his insurance company went spare.

A neighbour did himself serious damage when his knife failed under normal usage.
