So many knot books out there... What do you guys like? Looking for definitive, some literary value (fun language or references), and ideally up to date for synthetic rope as well. Seems like the classics that might be more fun to look at might not be as up to date, so maybe you can't have both...

OutdoorValueStore.com, sets of:

Edible Wild Plants East, Edible Wild Plants West,
Knot Playing Cards, Survival Playing Cards.

This might be more fun, plus it is "waterproof", a must to take on the trail.
They are VERY nice people, I have a deck myself and I am VERY happy with it,
tell them PastorMarko sent you.

Make sure you learn the Rosendahl (aka Zepplin) bend and the Double Dragon loop knot. And adjustable grip hitch.

I've never liked Ashley's. It's a great resource for finding out if the knot was known in antiquity, but if you're looking for a good "how-to" kind of book, it's not the best.

My favorite for "how-to" information is Des Pawson's "Book of Knots"
