know someone that's really good at identifying katanas

Kimo,
Trust me, it is definitely Kanemoto. I can tell you that it is not Magoroku Kanemoto, but which generation it is would be hard to say as there were several. The condition of the polish will make a generational determination harder.

The Tampa shinsa organizer is offering a mail in service or you could mail it to me and I could take it for you if you want to find out if the mei is shoshin (good).

Either way, I would recommend having it professionally polished. Do not take short cuts and don't even consider non traditionally trained polishers just to save money

He's in CA, so why not take it to the SF token kai? Granted that he would have to wait a year, but still....gotta be easier than mailing across the country if he's close.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

That would certainly be in better proximity for Kimo, IF they have a shinsa next year. Unlike the SF Token Kai, shinsa are not held every year. There was a shinsa in San Francisco this year, but I have not heard about any plans for one next year.

The upcoming shinsa in Tampa, February 2014 is definite and only six months away.

Ultimately, it is neither here nor there to me, as I stand to gain nothing. I will be attending and I will be submitting a number of swords. My offer is simply to help promote the shinsa to ensure it is worth the shinsa teams effort to come.
