Koa Fighter

Every time I see your knives I see something that appears stronger and more reliable then many others out there. Something about them just looks so dependable. Maybe because I know the damage my hunter was able to handle.. or maybe its something else.

Jonathan, you are right... Also to me they are the kind of knives that would be perfect if only Karl would have added a little bit of NOTHING and then removed a tiny bit of NOTHING ;)

Karl, i need to think about it a little while, and refresh some of my metallurgy... the thing which is difficult for me to get is the carbon being "sucked", because in my mind the carbon "goes" to where there is less concentration so wouldn't leave a depleted zone behind.
I don't know if someone had done some sample analisys, but maybe (just an idea) there are other reason for the etching reaction, other then the carbon concentration.
Have you ever etched a sample before HT to see if the double line was present as well?
BTW the closeup you posted is now my pc wallpaper ;)

I can see the transition zones when I am grinding the knife after forging it. The differing layers react differently to the sanding media.

(I will be leaving home for a few days. If we carry on this conversation, I may not be able to respond until Monday.)
