KOA Yukon belt knife - send it back?

Thank you guys for all the input!
I was really disappointed when I first got it, especially after looking at pictures of other guys that have the same knife, or youtube reviews where the grind seems to be ok..

Looks like a clunky copy of the original D.H. Russell Canadian Belt Knife -- still made by Grohmann Knives in Nova Scotia. Damned good knife. I field dressed my first mule deer with one. I prefer the carbon steel model.

I ordered this after watching several reviews on you tube really sung it’s praises and in one, made quick work going through beaver bones like they were butter but the review that sold it was Nutinfancy who has years of field use on his.

It arrived with bevels and edges (I have the No.1 with the top edge) perfectly done, but I HATE the rubbery grips. They are too soft and just feel cheap. Looking into replacement scales in micarta or bone in order to keep her.

I realize I’m complicit in dog-piling onto a 17-month necro-post here, but, logo placement and edge symmetry are pretty minor considerations to me when compared to heat treatment and quality of assembly.

If it’s made well and cuts well, everything else is of questionable consideration.

In my experience KOA has some really solid hunting knives, good D2 and useful designed blades. But all should be inspected before buying. I have gotten some just like yours that we're really lacking QC. KOA is best approach with the mentally that some finishing may be required buy the buyer. After that - they are fantastic.

Yep...I seem to recall that once upon a time...there was a town in Japan that was named "U.S.A."

If you remember that then you must be as old as me:p.

And actually, the town was "USA" without the periods. I believe our government put a quick end to that nonsense.

While on the subject, we all probably know that Arizona Custom Knives is located in Florida. A rose by any other name is still a rose, I guess.
