These two types of blades seem pretty similar in design, what are the differences between these two?

Just looking at the specs, the Kobra is a much lighter knife. The Kobra is advertised as being the lightest and quickest khukuri in the world.

The Kobra is usually thinner lighter and a bit more agile. The Kobra also has two humps on either side of its raised keeper representing three mountain ranges in Nepal. The Sirupate will have a brass embellished Aunlo Bal whereas the Kobra will not.

I'm having a hard time deciding on which one of these I wanna get :grumpy:

Simple. Flip a coin. Buy one now and the other later.....
I dare you to stop at just one.
As Uncle used to say "Debt is Good". ;) :D

Ask Auntie what she has in stock, that could be a good way of knowing which model is going to come first... Because we all know that it's impossible to stop at one.

What does that mean, Karda?

The sword of Shiva Emblem that parallels the spine of the blade on all the Khukuris.

Sirus and BAS (maybe others, I don't know) have scrollowork in there with brass embellishments. Most other Khukuris simple outlines. Others have just a line/groove.

I love the brass embellishments in my BAS, I think it adds the finishing touch to show the real artistry in its design.

Thanks, I had asked about this before, some of them are pretty intricate (and beautiful) on my HI Kuks.

Which one do you like more personally?

It's not what i like, but what you like....my friend.
Personally, i like the Gelbu Special, because it's named after Aunties brother and Pala recommends it. :p
If i were to have to choose between the two myself, would would get the Sirupate first because i'm traditionally minded and prefer its khukuri and less sword like shape. But the i would also have to get the Kobra to satisfy my sword needs.

You see, it's all about justification....;)

Don't have a BAS (yet) but love the "fancy" version on my Sirus too.

You need a BAS. Its a very light and quick Khukuri, but also warranted for "Field use". It is such a versatile knife in that it easily do the delicate work, but can be used to chop down a tree if need be. I think the BAS is the best khukuri to start with. It can do anything and easier to learn than a heavier khukuri.
(as a side note, I need to get a Sirupati...)

I ordered an 18 inch kobra from the site , I hope it is in stock.
If Auntie doesn't have one in stock, you can always do what I did while waiting for my first order... learned how to shark DOTD / Blems...

It comes down to what you want your light khuk to do:) If you are looking for a heavy machete, then the Siru is hard to beat. If you are looking for more of a fighting blade, it's very hard to do better than a Kobra weighing in around an oz per inch. I have a 20.5oz 20.5" Kobra, and it's wicked. I've often though a 16" and 16oz Kobra would make a fantastic fighter.

Look at the cho, my friend.
Kobra has double half-moon facing each other whilst Chitlangi has a "Wu-Tang" cho that makes you go HAIYA!

Yep, sure do. Right now my shortest Khukuri is a 17" CAK by Lacchu (absolutely perfect knife BTW. Function, fit, finish, etc) and I am almost positive that my next two non-DOTD Khukuris that I order will be a BAS and 15" Siru, both with horn handles. Think it is about time I give the little guys a try.

For the record I have purchased an HI BAS (villager finish w/KMFR sheath) but it was a gift to my cousin and shipped straight to him. Never got to handle it. :(

I seem to be having some trouble with contact in regards to my order, I got a response where I believe the person had confused my order with another. I specified my order and if there was any info on if it was in stock only to be met with no further reply.I emailed the email address located on the site for contact info.
