Koenig or Hinderer

Which would you prefer?

The design language is definitely different between the two, and I like both manufacturers but I've also sold all my Hinderers and the Koenig. It's a lot of money sitting around for tools that I'm not using, or using enough...

I've picked up a Spyderco Vallotton I bought on a sale months ago, shipped for under $250. Build quality is as good as the two in question. Makes it hard to want to spend 3, 4, 5 times as much for something else.

I voted Hinderer but this was a very hard decision. Love my Koenigs but my Full TI Fullered non-flipper is the king!!! I sometimes have a problem with regular flipper Hinderers bothering my index finger middle knuckle when holding and using the knife, this is why I prefer the non-flipper. Koenig action is better in my opinion but that only goes so far in my equation of comparing the two. Hinderer has so many more options, customizable, tip up or tip down carry, several blade finishes, several titanium variants, etc.

I voted Hinderer, tho I don’t own either lol
I do however own a few Eklipses, one is a user, it has great ergos.
I think a better comparison would be a full ti- Eklipse (Bowie, tanto, spearpoint, etc) VS
Shirogorov Quantum Ursus….
I have one, but i haven’t carried it yet, it’s my 2nd most expensive knife, $200 more than my 3rd most expensive, so that’s kind of too much for me to EDC, and risk losing (and yes I once lost an 0801BW, so it can happen)
Also, I think the Arius is Ugly, the blade is too tall, the handle looks like it tapers down too skinny where your index finger and thumb would be when held in a normal grip….no offense to anyone who owns one, I’m sure they are nice, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder 🤷‍♂️

I actually attended Bladeshow 2019 determined to buy an Arius. The second I picked it up at the Koenig table, I put it down and that made it easy to say nope.

I like the look, but like John said everything was too thick for my liking, and the ergos were way off for me.

To each their own.

Hinderer’s for me are no better. 🤷🏼‍♂️

IMO the Koenig is a better knife. The action is better, the blade is slicer and the fit-finish is superior to the xm18

So my personal pick is the Koenig for all basic tasks and especially if you are looking for an edc… that is also for this reason I carry my Koenigs more than my RHKs

However the xm18 is a great knife that gives you way more option
If you are looking for an high end work knife you will find the right blade shape / blade thickness (fatty, standard, skinny)
You also have options for different finishes (stonewash, beadblast, etc.) and hardware and scales

When it comes to the xm18 you will have a lot of options and depending on the intended use and you chosen configuration it can be a better tool than the Arius

At the end you cannot go wrong
Pick the one you want and you will be happy with it ;)

I'd buy both. In fact I did.
Odd to think the Hinderer used to be the knife fetching $800-1200.
The Arius is a very well made knife. Hinderer makes a decent knife, great design, but (IMHO) I think the ZT 0562Ti is a better XM-18. On the other hand the XM-24 Skinny is a better ZT 0560. Gotta love the FAT XM-18 though.
