Okay, so I've decided on a Kopa for an "office knife", but I'm undecided as to the scale material. I know that I like micarta for being tough, but I'm getting some spousal pressure to get one that's not "...boring and black like your other knives." :D I like the cocobolo, but it's not as available as the micarta still is, and I'm not sure what this "black quince" is going to look like. Anyone have any examples of black quince in use on a knife? Or, for that matter, on any other item where I could really get a look at it?

Thanks!

Sorry, I can not help you with black quince. Kopa Micarta is my least favorite out my six Kopas. Kopa Cocobolo and Kopa Apple Coral I love the most. Here is a link with Cocobolo. It will be closer to the bottom of the page. $106 is a good deal.

couple of them on e-bay.
I did not buy anything from soonerstate, but I heard some positive. One of e-bay sellers is wildealz. I bought few knives on his web site. He is all right.
Good luck in your hunt. Kopa is a great knife.

If you really like micarta, you might consider Evrina. It looks very similar to white micarta. As bh49's link shows, it's still possible to find the cocobolo with a bit of searching.

As for black quince, it appears to be a fairly dark burl wood. Here's a shot a Fallkniven in it...

Not sure what the release order for the new Kopas will be, so you could be looking at either a short, or a fairly long, wait for that one.

I would like to get one of the Micarta Kopa's one of these days. I like the way they look.
Maybe this will help you FoxholeAtheist. Keep in mind that there is a fair amount of variation in the grain on the material used.

Thanks, all.

I've looked at the white Evrina, but I prefer darker knives overall. I'm now thinking that if I can get the cash together prior to them disappearing, I'll go with cocobolo, and pre-order the quince if not. I saw on Crocblades.com that they were listing an estimated date of March for the quince Kopa, but have no idea where they got their info.

Okay, so I wussed out. I didn't want to be worrying about caring for natural materials, so I ended up buying the black micarta. Just got in today, and I love it! I also bought a copy of the Sharpmaker DVD, so I hope to be able to maintain the edge at the current sharpness... this is easily the sharpest knife I own. It's fun to watch the hair practically jump off my arm.

Thanks again, folks. :)
