After being overcome with delerium over my 1st Spyder a Delica with foliage green handle I've decided to branch out a bit.

I'm interested in the Kopa range, particularly the Tiger coral model. As I have to buy on-line(no Spyder dealers in Scandi)and the pictures on-line are very poor, could I ask for owners to post pix of their own Kopas please? Tiger Coral especially but all pix very welcome.

Does anybody have any opinions on this model they would like to share? Many thanks:thumbup:

Excellent stuff. Got a favourite there at all?The micarta looks very good with those rivets on the scales, can't make my mind up now!

... Got a favourite there at all?...
Well, the most individual structure has the Tiger Coral - no two pieces are equal; nowadays the Cocobolo is hard to get and so is a story for each one. I like them all :D

As I collect all Kopas I favourite always the last one - actually the Turquoise (sorry, don't have a picture).

Turquoise is not a colour I like at all so that doesn't matter.

What IS Tiger Coral exactly? Is it coral rock or?

This is going to be an expensive next few days.....do you think they may appreciate in value? Not that I care about that though.

Beautiful pictures Peter.

Hi Willgoy,

Kopa's are a little harder to find sometimes. We make 600 only pieces for each handle material. We've been doing about 3 runs per year.

The black quince is next, Mother of Pearl and tourquoise were most recent.

Mr Glesser,
Black Quince sounds really interesting! Will it have rivets on the scales? Any prototype pix?
Yes the pix on this thread have been very helpful, I think it will be Tiger Coral:thumbup:

Peter1960 - Wow what a collection and great photos!

Here's some pics I just took of mine, it was a Christmas present from my wife two years ago. It's a heck of a great gentleman's knife and is very over-built for such a small knife. One of these with a less fragile handle material could take a beating for sure.

Well on with the pics:

Get the tiger coral you won't regret it. Heath

Which handle materials hold up the best over time on the kopas? Micarta followed by the woods?

Of those used so far, am sure micarta would be at the top of the list. Evrina would proably be next followed by cocobolo, but am less sure about that, the order of those two might be reversed. The rest are all relatively delicate, which is least delicate I'm not sure. All the stones and shell would probably crack and/or chip if dropped on a hard surface, or if a hard, heavy, object were dropped on them. I think the jigged bone, when released, will be very close to micarta for durability, and the quince should be equal to the cocobolo. Better if you consider the way cocobolo darkens over time from use as undesirable, not as good if you find that it adds character. Speaking of that, all the stones so far appear to be stabilized, so they may be more stain resistant than the wood, but have never put that to the test. I don't subject my Kiwis, and would not subject a Kopa if one is ever made clipless, to the kinds of use where staining is likely or carry them in a manner where other forms of damage are likely to occur.

Excellent pictures Peter, as always!! I think you need to be the official Spyderco photographer. I do want to get one of the Micarta handled Kopas .
Willgoy, did anyone tell you that after that first Delica, it was all downhill from there;). Hang on to your wallet.

Kopa's really are beautiful knives... I've been looking at a small knife recently, and the Kopa really fits the bill for me, but it's so darned expensive!

The Spin is a cool little knife too, and for only $60, so I guess that'll be my personal choice :D (the spider webs look awesome)!

I went with the Micarta Kopa because I want to be able to carry and use the knife without worry about damage to the scales. I really like this knife, it is functional with a great handle and blade, very sturdy, nicely sized, and looks refined.

The story about Kopa would not be complete without Turquoise...

I agree with Peter - when new Kopa arrives it quickly becomes favorite.
In my case it is Cocobolo. Just got it yesterday.
