anyone here like the kopas? anyone collecting the whole shebang? i like most of them except for the jigged bone handle and the new stacked wood handles. does anybody have a complete list along with the order of release?

I intend to have a complete numbered set of them, and have all the ones issued to date, with the exception of the latest, which has not yet shipped to Spyderco Collectors Club members. I also have two which I carry occasionally, a Cocobolo and a Jigged Bone, both modified for me by STR to eliminate the clip. To me, those are the two best looking of the series so far, although the Giraffe Bone one due for release later this year will give them serious competition.

Release order is:

  • Cocobolo
  • Black Micarta
  • Evrina
  • Tiger Coral
  • Apple Coral
  • Gold Mother-of-Pearl
  • Turquoise
  • Black Quince
  • Whte Mother-of-Pearl with Abalone accent stripes
  • Jigged Bone
  • Stacked Wood
  • Pacific Blue Bone (latest release)
Guess I need to update my Kopa page. Noticed that as of now I haven't added photos of my Jigged Bone and Stacked Wood ones.

Edited to add: Here's a group shot...

Nice family shot Paul :D I have to update mine as well...I seem to be missing a few from the pic below which I took earlier.

I LOVE my Kopa's. One of the most expensive knives SPyderco makes (when compared with blade length/ knife size vs price).

I hear you Daniel, but one has to consider, as I am sure you have, that there are number of factors that determine price. The most obvious of the would be; material quality, matierial quantity (size), complexity, build quality (fit and finish), and greed. While we can ignore the last as a factor where Spyderco factory prices are concerned, the the others are fairly universal, at least when comparing knives manufactured in any single country. So, while the Kopa is relatively small, it employs quality materials, is very well finished, and has a high parts count due to its lock mecahnism, clip mounting, and dual bolster and scales construction. I'm sure you'd agree the pricing merely reflects that.

On a different note, I did update the Kopa page on my site after my earier post. :)

well, i guess i'm not quite half way there... nice pics guys and thanks! so far i have the Gold Mother-of-Pearl, Turquoise, Black Quince, White Mother-of-Pearl with Abalone accent stripes, and hopefully the tiger coral will be in the mail by tuesday. do you guys have any hints on where to find some of the older ones? not counting ebay, i mean. as far as older goes, they only have the ervina.

also, to The Deacon, how long have you been collecting spydercos and do you mind if you ask how much you have invested in them? do you collect others as well?
