Hey Gang, looking for info on the Kopromed Hunters from Poland. Has anyone owned and used one of the larger Hunters like the Models 1, 2, 4 or 6?

I found a little info on the possible steel they use, I think it is a variation of 440 something, but I have requested more info from their US distributor. I think the natural Stag antler inserts look great, and the fact that the above models are integral should make them very strong. However, I would think that if they were very good using knives the general knife buying public would have passed alot more word of mouth praise and they would be more popular than they are....? Also, as with other nice production knives, I wonder about the Leather sheaths as they appear to be thin from the pics I viewed.

I wonder why Kopromeds are not as popular as PUMA knives? Both European, they appear to be very similiar in some ways yet wonderfully unique in others.

Any educated opinions on these is appreciated.

I'm from Poland and kopromeds are not very popular down here (at least not amongts us knife addicts :) ). Unfortunatly I haven't had good experiences with their products... Their only unquestionable advantages were their prices (the last time I visited their website the knives were a lot cheaper! ).

But! My views are based on the cheaper models (traditional hunters are just not my cup of tea), and the company's general opinion here in Poland. As far as I know the ones you mentioned are hand forged from 440C (or at least sth simillar) while the cheaper ones are ground from an inferior material.

I'll look in to this matter I'm intrigued. I've already heard signals that something was cooking inside Kopromeds catalouge and heard rumors about new designs and steels (and that is very unusual, Polish knife industry is totally frozen.)

I'll check out their sheaths to...

I purchased a model 1 recently, which I returned, and a loveless style type hunter for my Dad a couple years ago which had a significant blade defect also.I feel that most knife-nuts would be disappointed with the quality.Mine looked like a blind man ground the blade.Uneven grind lines,lop-sided etc.Their knives basically suck :barf:

edited to add. the sheaths suck also

That's a shame Tombstone. Seems like they have a great idea but if they don't provide at least a modicum of quality then they are not a bargain at any price.

I thought I was going to buy a Polish made Puma style Quality type knife, and boy was it a disappointment. It was a Good idea and bad excecution

I'm afraid you're right. I visited a couple of local hunting shops and wasn't impressed by what I've come across, really.

what he said...

And as for the sheats. Well their just two pieces of almost raw (i hated the color, yuck) leather sewn together.. Their only pro is that they generally resemble the knife's shape. :)

I hope something will be done about this in the nearest future.
