I don’t see why it wouldn’t be possible... you’d just have t have the proper lapidary equipment. I’m sure Stacy will have more to say on the subject, him being a jeweler and all...

Interesting looking stone. Can you post a photo of the back side, and give the weight and dimensions?

Most Koroit and other boulder opals I have seen looks different that that. If it is a legit stone, it is a really high grade piece, and would be far better as a pendant. I would figure from the photo that it weighs over 100 carats. That would give it a price of around $1000. A bit too high for most knife handles.

There isn't any good way to make a knife handle from it that I can think of, anyway.

Stacy,

I just seen the photo and thought it was some of the coolest stone I've seen.

I new they made pendant's with it, and was just wondering if you could do a knife handle.

Jay Fisher use to post knives here that he had used stone on and I thought you could do the same with this?

(From the size of the guys fingers in the photo. If I had it, maybe have a small letter opener made to set on my desk?)

Thanks for the reply -

Many of the photos on the web and ebay are done with colored lights and some are "enhanced". If that stone was less than $1000, I suspect something is not right.

That stone would have to be placed in some sort of bezel to be used. With skill and the right equipment, it could be cut up into sections and used as inlay in a "gamblers" dagger type hande.

Stones like jade, agates, and other hard and non-fracturing minerals can be made into handle scales. Opal, MOP, and stones like turquoise and lapis are used in inlay handles.
All that require good lapidary equipment and some experience.
