I am not sure if any of the regulars were able to jump in on the Koster Knife Kits. A few months back Dan offered a couple of kits in his forum. Being a big fan of his work I was quick to order 2 of his little Scandi blade blanks.

The blanks were 1/8" CPM 3V and were finnished to the point that all you had to do was put on the Scales and do the final honing.

This is the result of my first attempt. I went with a piece of cocobolo that I had in my shop and used aluminum for the thong hole and the forward pin.

In this photo you can see the size comared to the Koster bushcraft. Although the photo is deceiving the blade on this one is 3" with a nice size handle.

Overall I am very happy with the size of the handle for my medium sized paws.

After working the scandi edge over with some wet/dry paper on a slab of granite up to 400 grit I must say the 3V steel is impressive.

Here is a picture of some fuzz sticks.

If you were able to snag on of these you are going to be very happy with the end product. $55.00 for a beautiful little DIY project was well worth the money in my opinion. I plan to piggyback this knife with a large Koster Chopper that I have on order and I feel I have all my outdoor chores covered.

Thanks for looking.

Thats awesome....I missed out on those, but they look really neat!!

Good job on the handle!

Man that is a neat little knife. I may eventually have to pick up one of those Enzo blanks to try out a scandi grind.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

I am quickly becoming a big fan of the 3V steel. With a scandi grind it is some really nice stuff.

Some people on here say what's the deal with the fuzz sticks, but they are a great way of seeing how good the blade geometry is and looking at those you did I'd say you got yourself a superb little blade !!!!

Thanks for all the kudo's guys.

Pitdog,

I agree that trying to shave some fine curls will tell you a lot about blade geometry. It's not the be all end all test, but it is a start.

Really good job. I tried to start putting scales on mine today but got called in to help a couple of family members. Perhaps another day.

Rockywolf,

I agree Dan's products are very good and well thought out. He is just one of those makers that I am drawn to most of his designs. I am very happy with the little kit knife.

He is a very active participant on his forum. I keep debating whether I should buy a Nessmuck from him or not. Great kitchen knife!
