kriss cutlery or crisswell

Okay Triton, nice fit, finish, feels great in my hands and it came razor sharp. Shipped to me its total cost was $218.00.

Blade is 16" and overall length is 25" , I would have preferred more blade and less handle but you can't have everything.

The blade and handle is one piece and does not feel flimsy. I would bet money on it that this blade can really take a beating.

I am so impressed that my next buy will be the katana priced at $289.00

That's funny, my Criswell Wakizashi has a 20" blade and razor sharp as well, and I agree that it can whack just about anything and not see damage, very strong construction.

Thanks, could you tell me where the point of balance and center of percussion is on the blade?

Hey Gary, do you want to trade?

Sorry Triton, you're talking greek to me. Maybe Gary knows.

I just know it looks and feels good.

It is pretty easy to discover both of those attributes, here is how:

Point of balance: Hold the sword only on two your extended index fingers (or rulers or somthing if you prefer) Slide the fingers towards each other without letting the sword unbalance and fall off. Where ever your fingers meet and the blade remains balanced on them is the point of balance.

Center of percussion:
Hold the handle of the sword in one hand near the guard. Strike the bottom of the handle with the other hand while watching the blade. The place where the blade does not vibrate back and forth is the center of percussion.

Give it a try and let me know.

Well, on my Wakizashi here is what I found;
First dimensions
Blade length is 20"
Blade thickness is 5/16"
Blade width near Tsuba is 1 3/8"
Blade width near tip is 1 1/8"
Tsuka length is 9"

Balance is located 3 1/4" in front of the Tsuba

That shock thing didn't work too well for me sorry....

and Stuart S. Igarta.....sorry NO!

Hey Triton,

The point of balance is about a 1" up from the tsuba.

I couldn't really see that vibration thing but, my best uneducated guess was about the same place as the point of balance.

If anyone wants a Criswell sword this is the where they can be found http://www.knifemart.com/chriswel.htm
I just called Rich today and there is a wait list of about 7 people (8 including me) for the Katanas.

Thanks guys. It is difficult to tell the center of percussion on a katana because typically the blades are two short and stiff to vibrate much. 3 and 3/4 inches for a point of balance sounds okay for a 20 inch blade. Does the thing have any distal taper (taper in the depth dimension rather then the width dimension)?

Another quick question, is that a hollow ground edge that I am seeing in the picture?

No Distal taper, and it is hollow ground but a very shallow one at that.
