As anyone reads this let me say that I write this with no emotion....I have been presented with many points of views. Some I have learned from and most I have been able to clarify to with my explanation of why I create something or develop product and the use of it. Thank you for the opportunity. Lets begin.
You make very good points and you and I can create a debate that could last for days, weeks (smiling) on and on....
"Gimmicky"....everything out there that attracts attention is because of a "gimmick", something that is different and make one think and go WOW I LIKE THAT.
Confrontations are always important to be avoided....but, the use of any tool (ANY TOOL) must be followed with proper training and practice. That being said, in a true fight one looks for any advantage to win. So if you have a knife or a gun and I have a stick I may be able to win, depending of the opportunity given. Even if we are going at 100mph. We have to take into consideration that hormones, neurotransmitters, body conditioning, geographical situations, etc....will take priority over that moment. The question is in the training.
All I am offering is another option to what one can carry to protect themselves. If a folder is going to be used (because of the immediate situation) and I am using SNAG then all I want is to get your attention quickly and deliver some chaos...allowing me to escape or move up to the next level of TOOL power.
If the only opportunity I have is to use my SNAG as a blunt impact tool, then so be it. It's not about common sense, it is about the choice you have at that moment....then open an opportunity to move up to the next level of power.
If you have not had the chance please to my website to see other products that may better help. If a folder feels weak in a comfrontation then perhaps a fix blade or a Controller.
Thank you and please do not take this as a confrontation....text never delivers emotions and can somtimes cause a mis-understanding. I can always be reached via phone.

Even if intended just for control I still don't think it's a good idea and see it as gimmicky. Trying to control someone in a dynamic confrontation with the back part of the blade could put a ton of pressure on the lock, the very best liner-locks can take about 130lbs. of pressure on the back of the tip. It's not like a robotic slow motion demo. Trying to find ways to use a knife as a kubotan type of device for pressure points, trapping, blunt strikes, etc. just don't really make much sense in general. Are you going to use it as a pain compliance tool on an unarmed guy starting trouble? If they are armed with a weapon are you going to attempt trap and pass moves in real life or do the smart thing and go for disarm immediately and finish right away?
If you have enough training to actually use a device to do pain compliance control, trapping, locking, etc. with adrenaline pumping and situation moving 100mph, you don't need the device to begin with. If you use this on an unarmed guy and he lands rough and gets a nice cut, bystanders saw you take a knife out your pocket...
