Kryptoglow handles?

I've got some on an Izula and they are nice. Think of the texture of a cats tongue. I was concerned as well with them being too soft but that has not been the case. Easy to find this one if I drop it too.

Daniel makes excellent material for the grip panels on many different knives as well as slab material. It is durable and not a painted on thing but is machined to specs. Send him a knife or handle slab and he can make new ones. It is not illegal or unethical to make improvements or after market products for a product line...Think of the supplied handles on your ESEE or Becker as OEM parts and Kryptoglow's as the aftermarket upgrade to personalize your knife. Even I would not object to having a customer get a set for one of my knives. He has impeccable credentials as a maker of material with hundreds of satisfied customers and he has patented the manufacturing process. He is currently making a set of handles for my RAT in lime/GIT green.

He was great to deal with and his product is awesome. It would be worth contacting him for rough textured handles also. I think he makes them all by hand and could work something out to get you more texturing. I love mine!

Has anyone used this stuff in salt water yet? I am going to be making a dive knife for a buddy and one of his "would like" things was a neon handle, something very bright that actually glowed a bit for when he's out at night. I told him I'd look into it but not to hold his breath, but if this holds up in salt water...

I know about as much about kryptoglow as I've seen in the pictures in this thread, but being that it's a plastic, and a decently firm one from what owners say, I think it could probably handle saltwater as well as zytel, maybe not quite as good but close. But like I said, take what I just said lightly until someone with knowledge confirms it.

Is there a way to make a 'glowing black' kryptoglow set of handles? Only asking because I can't pick a favorite color...... other than black that is.

I sent them an email. Some plastics have issues with salt water after a very short period of time, along with many colorings. It really looks like cool stuff though, so I've got my fingers crossed.

You guys all know I like to make my own stuff aka I'm a cheap ass (kinda). I'd be doing this if I wanted some glowing scales:

Who cares if they are the exact SHAPE? They are still different than anything Kabar sells (one color of Micarta). And to use the Kryptoglow scales, you must buy a Becker so everybody wins. Kabar isn't losing money on this.

I think spongy would be good on a chopper.
Admittedly I'm not familiar with kryptoglow, but I wrap my choppers in paracord to soften the impact. Though I will admit there can be too soft.

Paracord to soften?? Man, that seems like it would rub your hand raw. If thats what you are going for, you need to try the stuff I put on all my big blades, the black Wilson Tennis Racket Wrap Walmart sells in a 3 pack. Best grip ever. Look in the Junglas vs Boomslang vs BK9, Machax, Chainsaw, etc thread and there is a pic of my BHK Machete wrapped in it.

That video was pretty interesting. Never thought about doing a handle like that. Would work pretty well too with the modern Beckers.

That video is pretty cool. Have seen a few other things by him as well.

Yeah, Mikes stuff is awesome! I learned ALOT from him.

nice vid. I think I have watched some of his stuff before, seems to have his sh*t together.

Now, moseying over to the mentioned site (one that has taken a lot of my money lately) and checking out this here GlowDust LOL

Anyone know if the slabs lose their ability to glow over time or does it last indefinitely? Do they have to be "charged up" with light first in order to glow?

I don't know about the life cycle of the glowing. But yes, these definitely need to be charged with light first in order to glow. They don't take much though.

I'm surprised noone here has ever done the next glow step...something that was fairly common on the upper crust knives of another forum I used to haunt...Carving out some recesses in their handles and placing tritium vials in them....
