I really want some different color scales for my 0561. I've been waiting for something from Hinderer to come out, but I think it's going to be a very long time before they are available. I'm thinking about a Kryptoglow scale but I have some questions;

1) Do they fit perfectly on the 0560/1? I know myself, and I'm a very picky person. It would drive me nuts if they were uneven etc.

2) If I send in my knife to ZT, do I have to put the original scale back on or is it okay to just leave the aftermarket scale on there?

3) How does the material feel in hand? Is it similar to G10 in terms of feel and strength?

Thanks for the help.

Nice question. I've thought about the same, but for the 030x' scale. I wrote to Kryptoglow an email, but got no response. Even dont know if he making some scales for 0300 with machining simillar to basic scale (i saw his scales for 0560 on evil bay and they are looks like original KAI-made scales). So if anyone could help - i'll be the second with such question.

Good questions calypso, I'll try to help you out.

1. Some do some don't. I personally believe all aftermarket scales, and some factory scales to be imperfect period. I had to remove a little material from my 0561 scale to aid in releasing the frame lock.

2. I personally would remove them. I have no experiance of sending one in with it on, but thats just me.

3. I can't tell the difference in hand. I'm sure if you are super anal and look at it through a microscope, you will see differences. I could care less as long as it feels and works the way as advertised.

I personally like his work, along with the others on here making them for us. I think you would be very satisfied.

Calypso699,

I have a nice kryptoglow scale on my 560 and will attach a photo for your viewing pleasure. As to your questions 1. yes they are a perfect fit on my 560. 2. I don't know about having to remove them or not to send in to ZT but it is only 4 screws. 3. The material has a really nice warm feel to it and they are very grippy, I could not address strength as compared to G10 but Kryptoglow might be able to. Try PMing him here on the forum. He makes really nice stuff and I plan on adding a grip from him on my 550 as soon as funds come available. PS mine glows really cool to :D No more worries about it getting lost in the dark.

No 0300 series scales being made yet:mad:

I'd echo these answers. If you order one of his scales and he doesn't have YOUR knife in hand to put it on himself, there is the possibility of minor variations, but on the whole, my scale looks and feels great.

For the answer above that stated that some material had to be removed to make the framelock accessible. I contacted Dan before buying my scale and had him dremel the area over the lock release so that my scale actually matches the steel liner underneath in that area. It has made accessing the lock much more sure and reliable than the original scale.

Is there any sort of an FAQ listing of all the aftermarket scale makers? Particularly for the ZT 055x/056x knives?

Kryptoglow's scales for my 0561 lined up better than the factory's. I love them. He even sent me a "blem" since he was a little backlogged and my order was delayed (a couple days) and I have no idea what is "blem" about it. They are sweet. I highly recommend them, especially for the price. They aren't G-10, but you can't tell a difference.

I don't believe there is. I believe you would just look in the service providers section and pm or email them. Not a bad idea to add something like that as a sticky or whatever.

I have his scales for the 0350, 0550, 0560 and JYD, and the fit and finish on all of them is exceptional. I have also received a few "blems" that are off very slightly in places, but this was known beforehand. If you are not happy with the product, he will make sure you get a set that works for you... which I am cool with, since I may pick up the blems. :p

I traded somebody for an 0560 with one of his scales and it fit just right. The texture was similar, but not identical to the stock scale. Slightly smoother, I'd say.

I just requested an 0550 scale from him a few weeks ago and it also fit just right. It's textured and is a little smoother than the stock scale, but it's lived on the knife since I got it. Works just fine for me.

I had a kryptoglow scale for my 0560 and the fit and finish are great. I can almost guarantee that if you don't like it do to fit and finish Dan will make it right. He's a very cool guy.

As for the texture it is just a little smoother I thought but still had a good grip.

You guys are amazing! Thanks everyone for the very informative responses...those were exactly want I was looking for. The pictures provided were just what I needed to push me over the edge. I really like the marbled look, but the all yellow scale looks pretty sweet also! Decisions...decisions...

There's one less yellow scale on the market now thanks to you guys ;). Pics to follow once it arrives.

Thanks for the positive feedback fellas. To those interested, this material is a blend I have established over the past two years. I just kept testing and reading and so forth until I was happy with the product. It is similar to G10 in looks and feel but is not quite as strong. Although not quite as strong as G10 it has done well for me with over 3000 sold.
I try and make each scale as close to perfect as possible. I went from making 4 usable scales out of 10 in the beginning to making maybe 7 usable scales out of 10 these days. I'm thankful that my scrap pile is getting smaller with experience. As mentioned, I do my best on everyone but there may be a slight flaw or two that I miss occasionally. If someone gets " a bad one" I have no problem replacing it.
I currently offer many models but am adding to the list every chance I get. I'm working on the ZT0350, manix 2, 0700 (0700-because I want to force it back in production:) and a few others right now. Another item I hope to list soon is spacers for the 0350, 03??, skyline, scallion, chive, JYD

Thanks again for the support. You guys are my kind of people

Maybe some of you could post a couple pics of your 3D 0350 scales, if they are available. solidorange, I believe you have some on your 0550?

I will buy your first available glow spacer for my ZT0301, maybe Ill get 2 of them :D

Thank you so much for your informative response. I got the tracking number today and can't wait to receive them. Thank you for shipping them out quickly. I'm sure the scale will exceed my expectations. I'm happy to be supporting a fellow forum member as well.
