Has anyone seen these Kubatons by Rick Hinderer? Any experience with them?
THey look really nice, I cannot wait for mine! :D

Thanks, Steve

I hate the key attachment. Very cheesy, has to be a better way.

The variety of screw in devices is a nice feature. It allows you to tailor your Kubaton in a way that works best for you. That said, some of the pointy options would poke you mercilessly were you to sport it on your keychain.

The holes in the body, allowing it to be used as a yawara are very thoughtful.

Good quality, fit and finish, and a steal, at like $69.00 for the whole package. I would have purchased one at Blade for novelty factor, but money needed to be spent on KNIVES only.

Thanks for your purchase Steve! I really appreciate it!...Let me know what you think when you recieve it!

Kohai999, I designed the keyring attachment so the kubaton rides more comfortbly in your pocket, the bail rotates 360 degrees so your keys are not stuck out to the side, but then the modularbility of my kubaton is such that if you dont like a certain attacment insted of discounting the whole kubaton you just pick another attachment, but I'm still courious as to why you think its cheesey...also I agree that some of the attachments would not be friendly on one's anatomy if carried in the pocket, but some guys will not carry them in such a way,and the ones who do will opt for the less "lethal" attachments, again hence the "modular" design of my kubaton..I will have a kydex carry rig that I will be doing that will enable one to carry the pointy ones easily...

The whole idea of my modular kubaton is to let you the customer configure your stick the best way to suit your needs, what works for some wont work for others thats the beauty of this design. Also I will constantly be designing more attachments in the future so all you need to do is purchase a new attachment and you have a whole new kubaton that you can switch around as the need warrents it,for instance I will have a pen attachment available next week so you can write with it,also anothe new item for the kubaton is a pocket clip that you can add for carry, and even more "lethal" attachments coming soon.
You are alittle off on the price tho...these kubatons are $90.00 each which include your choice of 2 attachments, the tightening pins and the 550 cord for the koppo stick option...Thanks a bunch!!

Rick, if you notice, I said

"The variety of screw in devices is a nice feature. It allows you to tailor your Kubaton in a way that works best for you."

I hardly discounted the whole package, I thought it was cool. I beg your pardon on the pricing thing, I work with Anthony Feight, and I thought that was what he told me, sorry if I was off by a rather substantial $25.00.

I think the keychain attachment is cheesy, because it is obviously stamped, and looks it, and I felt with the thought and effort that went into the attachments, the keychain was the weak link. I know why you made it like you did, but a cool machined swivel, maybe a ball and socket would have been cooler-it matters, the devil is in the details. I personally would not be interested in a kydex sheath for this item.

Sure, you can make more lethal attachments for the kubotan. Kind of like the hand implement thing on Mr. Han in Enter the Dragon, you could have the knife, fork and spoon attachment, the scissor attachment, the pizza wheel attachment, hawkbill, kris and bowie attachment, the list goes on :D .

I like the ones that you came up with now, it is very configurable to make a defensive weapon that works for the style that you know. I still want one.

Hi Steven,
Sure I noticed that you sayed that and thanks, I was just reinforcing that point for the masses :) and no worries on the pricing,I have a hard time remembering things like that..I just wanted to point that out so someone doesnt get pissed when I tell them the actual price :)
as for the keyring, actually I had those lazer cut...and yes, a ball and socket was thought of as well as 3 other cool ideas I had for a key ring and a quick detach system..but,one thing I had to keep in mind was I wanted this to be affordable for everyone...the more machine time and more hand work ment the price was going to go up substantially..I did not want to kill sales on this kubaton just because of the keyring attachment...I went with what I felt worked the best at the best value.as fo rthe Kydex..AHHH but you havent seen what I have planned :D

and pizza cutter! I like that!! that would be cool!

Say Hi to Anthony for me!

Thanks!

Rick

Rick, great idea! i must get one of these kubatons soon. BUT are there any plans for maybe a stainless version to pull the price down?

slide13 has one (we work together, and I don't think he visits here a whole lot these days). I've gotten a chance to play with his (KUBATON, dirty bastids). Awesome fit and finish, but what would you expect, given the quality of his other products? Feels nice in the hand, and the holes are a nice touch.

I like the idea of a pen attachment. What kind of cartridge will it use? I like the idea of a stainless steel version, too, or hard-anodized aluminum.

Thanks everyone!

madfast and couger allen, thank you! Yes, I do have plans for a aluminum version with the mil spec type III hardcoat anodizing, which will be a significantly lower price...these will be done within this month....I will do a special run of stainless versions for those who desire a heavier kubaton..I am sending a sample aluminum one to the anodizers tomorrow and should have it back next week,I'll try tp post pics of it! should be cool with the type III ano!

Thanks eric1115!!!!

Rick,

The Kubaton arrived today and I am really impressed! Everything fits together perfectly. Love the anodizing, I think if anyone asks me what it is, I can just say a stylus for my Palm :) I cannot wait for whatever new attachments you come out with, will you be posting the different attachments on your website?

Hello Steve,
Thanks!...cool you got one of the anodized ones! actually one of the new attachments I'm coming out with is a actual stylus...I also currently offer a pocket clip...the new attachments will be shown on my site as soon as I update it which will be over the weekend or early next week..I will also have a simplified ordering sheet..also finished next week will be the pen attachments!....Thanks again!! incidently my site is www.rhknives.com

Since the link doesn't work I can't tell if that's spam or what....

The link worked a while ago. There was some useful information and stuff for sale as well.

Edit to add: Mostly just stuff from Amazon that someone will benefit from, not necessarily the site's owner. Google's cache

I have seen both the alumiton (aluminim kubaton) and the pen attachemnt, and they are sweet. Rick, you know I think you do great work.
