Kubatons

I was just perusing EDCKnives.com and noticed that bead-blasted ones were available there. The handle is $25 and the attachments are $15 a pop, making it quite a bit different in price. Looks cool, too. Rick, is the threading the same on the aluminum and titanium ones? So, can you interchange the titanium and aluminum parts?

Titanium and aluminum will gall and weld nicely to each other, so if this is do-able, make sure you make liberal use of titanium anti-seize compound. Most bike shops carry small packets of this stuff for use on titanium hardware on aluminum frames, so you don't need to buy a whole tub of the stuff.

I would contact Mr. Hinderer and ask about availability. It would be my guess the devices are expensive to produce and therefore perhaps not always in inventory.

Hey guys! thanks for your interest in my Modular Kubatons....I will try to answer some of your questions.

Chiro75, yes, the threading is the same on the aluminum as the Ti..so they will enterchange...they look cool too!

The Modular Kubaton is definitly still available, For the Titanium I have a limited number of bodies in stock right now,but I do have quite a few attachments...
I have a good many of the Aluminum Modular Kubatons in stock...

Also I just finished up production of my new Pen attachment I have a limited number of these right now but to be honest they are going fast...

Out of SIGHT! That pen is the greatest -- a tactical intellectual tool :D

Seriously, Rick, it really looks good.

What do you use a kubaton for? HOW do you use a kubaton? I really have no idea!! TIA for the explaination!!

I have seen a lot of kubatons; and I like Rick's designs the best!! But then I am also a huge fan of his stuff.

Hi Rick, are any dealers going to have the pen attachment for sale, or can I order directly from you?

I have an all Ti rainbow anodized kubotan w/bullet ends, flat ends, and pocket clip, ideally I would like a matching pen attachment and maybe the armor piercing tip. :p

Thanks,
Josh

General information about Kubotans/Kubatons can be found at
this Kubotan page

It is a short impact weapon that can be attached to a keychain
and therefore sometime can be taken to a place where a knife
cannot go.

Best regards.

Just be advised that they aren't legal everywhere, so check your local listings and stay tuned and all that...

from the referenced page:

It is incorrect to say this is an entirely unregulated weapon. Kubotans are not specifically named in U.S. statutes as dangerous per se. Where they may be prohibited, it would be because they could (might) be viewed as falling into a class of devices with the unique purpose inflicting harm by an individual who carries one or perhaps because they might be viewed as "designed to be capable of death or serious bodily injury." (Fat chance.) Be advised that in 1999 New Hampshire's Supreme Court found that an ordinary roll of coins, when carried for protection and held in the hand (i.e., for fist loading) to strengthen a punch was a dangerous weapon and a violation of the state's statute outlawing metal knuckles. As Massad Ayoob pointed out in 1983, "...anything becomes a weapon when you hit somebody with it."

Best regards.

Thank you all again!....

What about polymer resin? As in non-metallic?

For the past six years I have carried my keys on an ASP key defender, I just replaced that with one of these modular kubatons and am very happy. I find the key ring to be totally functional and even though I carry it IWB the short striking bezel (read nasty points) hasn't bit me yet and seems like it will be fine unless you plan on rolling around on the ground a lot. Even then the way it rides would preventanything worse then a little discomfort. Really nice tool and I am looking forward to checking some of the other options. I have a prybaby and microlight on mine making it a very handy little package that can pretty much go anywhere.

Thanks for a very cool product Rick and thanks for a great shopping experience Dwayne.

The hinderer kubatons are great. I bought a pen set at the Blade show west. I currently own a large strike bezel, pen attachment, bullet tip, armor piercing tip, and a pocket clip. My prefered carry method now is the pen attachment on one end and the armor piercing tip on the other. This makes it very long, greater than 7". I like having the blunt end and the piercing end. I also like having the pen on hand at all times. For a slightly shorter length I switch the pen for the bullet tip. The strike bezel is nice too.

I am a huge fan of the pocket clip. I just recieved it in the mail a few days ago. It makes carry it easy. I also own a kydex/concealex sheath for it. I have not found the best carry method to use it yet.

The one downfall to the kubaton is that it is hard to find the ends. I purchased a flame-colored body. I was able to find a "ap" tip in Ohio after talking with Darrel Ralph and Ryan Bailey. They pointed me to riversedge which is a knife shop close by to there shop. I found the pocket clip on plazacutlery.com which seems to have the most comprehensive stock of parts. I have tried ordering the attachments through edcknives.com and rick but I have not recieved responses to my email.

I look forward to new ends. Especially a carbide tipped model for breaking windows and possibly an end that will allow me to attach two handles together.

Hi Brianml, Thanks a bunch for the very good review! I'm glad you are enjoying your Modular Kubaton!...The pocket clip does make it easier to carry!..Also I am truely sorry I didnt get back with you...I got so swamped this fall that just the other day I was saying to my wife that I sure hope I didnt forget anyone..unfortunatly it looks like I did :(...please accept my apology it sure wasnt intended....I DO have all the attachments in stock right now!...and I am going to be starting on those adapters that will make it possible to attach 2 kubatons together and some new ice pick attachments...and the window punch is in the works as well.....I'll try to get some new pics up also...Thanks again so much!
