Kukri for deployment

Hi, I am in the Army and I am trying to figure out what would be a good kukri to take with me on deployment. I have become some what infatuated with kukris recently and would love some suggestions on one to carry on my kit.

Realistically speaking, I think this is by far your safest bet.

You won't go very far with a heavy hunk of steel without getting pissed about it, and I bet you won't use it as much as you wished. That folder reunites a lot of qualities that would make it a pretty good (even if unorthodox) military knife.

A Kukri is just too heavy and unwieldy to be realistically useful imo.

First ... WELCOME!

Second ... I wouldn't want to hump an extra 1~2 lbs on patrol. ;)

Third ... Kabar Becker BK21 (13.3",18.8",22.4oz) or BK4 (9.4",14.6",15.2oz)

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I very much appreciate the feedback. I am aware that ounces make pounds but I figured that I would roll with it, see how it feels and adjust from there. BTW i'm and 11b

My suggestion is to leave the kukri at home. You'll not use it, and it'll just be something else to keep track of.

Now I'll really double down..you don't need it it will be a pain to maintain and take up valuable space or be a PITA if on your waist.

........and might make egress from the tight confines of an APC potentially hazardous to your health (and those behind you).

To add to what's been said about the traditional ones...with Himalayan Imports, in my experience, you may need to go through a few of them in order to find a good one. I just didn't see the consistency there, nor the much-lauded QC. I am sure they were better in the past.

That being said, a traditionally-made one that "hits all the nails in the head", is really something.

I'd go tomahawk over kukri. Much more useful.

Plus, it's the U.S. military. A tommy just makes more sense. :)

If you talk self defence and you feel you need a Khukuri, this means you will have run out of ammo or are too close to use your main weapon and in that case someone has effed up .......badly.

Actually, it'd mean you ran out of ammo --- and so did the enemy.

We never used large, heavy blades in the army, but mid size ones. If I had an option and loved khukuries at the time,(which wasn't the case), with today's knowledge and experience, I'd look definitely into KHHI (Khukuri House Handicraft Industry) products (See from their websites, about 4-5 of them) or HI (Himalayan Imports) both companies are very much reliable and do top notch khuks, plenty of sizes and options, you can not go wrong with either one, genuine khuks and real value for money....

Also Tora Blades khuks seem very good quality according their feedbacks, but I never order from these guys... (yet)
