Kukri Interest?

While on the topic of "different" blade shapes how about a barong style blade like the cold steel machete? I have the cold steel and it's my favorite machete, would love to get one made that's more like a knife than a machete(thicker blade, micarta or G10 handles, etc)
ETA: I think one with an 8" blade would be great, my favorite length for larger knives, and fits in a spec ops sheath.

you mean something similar to my reground broken machete with a bit more of a drop point? (I call this my zilla-roach belly or tactical boat oar depending on use)

Yep, pretty much. Drop that point, and not so much belly so the blade isn't as tall.

I really dig the 12" cold steel but it doesn't hold an edge like I'd like. If it was more along the lines of a knife it would be great.

John, have you ever considered a JK Smatchet? 14 inches and 3 inch wide 3/16 would be really nice for one of those.:D

I am considering making a Kukri, but am limited by the size of my forge. Do you guys think 14" overall, with a 9" blade is large enough, or not?

John, one of my favorite blades for trail maintenance is my Benchmade Bushmaster. It isn't exactly a Kukri or a Parang but the size is very close to what you are proposing including the thickness.
