Kukri Machete?

i love my Condor Golok..well worth the money.

if you look hard enough you can find one of the best production machetes ever.
its made by becker and called the BK6. its a beast 1/4 inch thick and a 14inch blade. it will clear anything you want (and it has an organic recurve:thumbup:)

heres a link:

I have a BK-6 patrol Machete blank here, i bought it after Camillus went belly up.
I need to work on the grind and put a handle on that one!
:)

Price limit is apx $75, but that has to include shipping. I have narrowed down what I want to get to three things but I need to cut one of them. The three things are the Condor golok, the CS kukri machete, and the CS rifleman's hawk. Obviously the CS machete is the cheapest, with the other two being within five bucks of each other. Buying the machete and the golok would be kinda redundant, but i can't decide which one to cut. So i am bringing my problems to the experts. (If the Golok came with a sheath it would be much easier to commit to, but its almost twice as much as the machete and the machete includes a sheath. So I am torn.)

i would lose the CS machete. cold steel has really dropped the ball with some of their products.

PM me telling me where youre buying from, ill see what they have listed:thumbup:

i have a cs kukri ( the small one) i really like it a lot. i've done some pretty heavy batoning with it and it has held up well:)

I bougth a CS magnum kukri I don't think it's all that bad. It's not too heavy and you can give it a very useable edge. I don't see anything wrong with the handle either. The only thing I did was to re-shape the tip, to give it a little more of a point. I use it to do some pruning of bushes in my backyard (sorry, no pictures, yet).
Actually, the only thing I didn't like was the sheat (crappy).

i think CS made the low cost machetes for non knife people. its cheap and can do the job, but if you want something to be good enough to hand down as an heirloom, or use for al least the next 40 years. you wont find it in those.

i just look for that in all my purchases.

CS doesn't make the machetes--they contract the work out to Lasher Tools of South Africa. ;)

I have a Condor golok that I've been happy with, but I agree that their sheaths are a bit pricey. My solution was to make my own for a total cost of about $5.

thats pretty freakin sweet, what did you use?

Thanks. I started with a piece of PVC pipe that I heated and shaped. I epoxied in some leather tabs to get a good friction fit. I carved an end cap using a piece of poplar, then sanded everything smooth. Six coats of Krylon Fusion were applied, and I made a frog out of about 30' of 550 cord. The wrap and the belt loop are all a single piece.

Thank you all for all the valuable input so far, I figure there's no sense making a decision before monday so any more input is still appreciated. BTW this thread is all thanks to my wife for giving me the moola and more importantly the ok to buy me some knifely things for my birthday. I have the best wife ever!

Happy birthday! Congrats on your wife being supportive of your constructive obsession with sharp tools; you are a blessed man.

The way I see it, if you are getting a combo for camping or wilderness survival, then go with the CS Rifleman's Hawk and the Condor Golok. You have some do-it-yourself sheath options. If you are just getting two new tools then go with the CS Hawk and the Kukri machete, and you'll be able to get something else too. As far as I can find, Knifecenter.com has good prices on all of them. You want to order from the same site to avoid multiple shipping charges. If you go the CS / Condor route, you'll have about $9 left after shipping. If you go with the all CS route, you'll have about $21 left after shipping. Consider adding something like a CS Bushman or a Boker Magnum Pocket Kukri folding knife.

Yeah knife center is where i was looking, they seem to have the best overall prices.

Hello my name is uncouth, and I am a knife addict.
I just ordered all three, the CS Kukri Machete, the Condor Golok, and the Rifleman's Hawk.
So I had to add about ten bucks to what the wife gave me but this way I didn't have to make a difficult decision.lol.

Good for you. That was definitely the smart choice.

Uncouth...

Seriously Id say with out a doubt get the regular CS Khukri.. Just the small one nothing fancy, I've had one for over a year.. I've split wood, cleared brush, de-limbed trees, did I mention hit the dirt filled with rocks more then a gazillion times??? never chipped and keeps on plugging away..

I recently bought the Marbles bolo and the tramotina machetes.. they're crap !! well at least compared to the CS Khukri.. I had them out Saturday and chipped them both... I guess I need to convex them like I did the CS... maybe they'll perform better i dunno..

goto you tube and look up the destruction test that Noss4 did on the CS he NEVER broke it..!!!

Most all his tests end with the knife broke..

I'm telling you I've used mine more then anyother and I have the HI Khukris as well.. They can't be beat but you're looking at $160 plus and add about 26oz weight..
