Kukri Recommendation

Can't see carrying a larger one from HI backpacking unless I know I will need it A LOT. Most things can be handled with a more traditional knife which I suspect will be occasional use. But if you want one, get it! They are certainly great choppers.

Yah, I hear ya. I’ll give it a try and if it proves to be too cumbersome, I’ll use other fixed blades I have.

But, these kukri’s have struck my interest now. I forsee a few in the near future. I always can use them for a variety of tasks around my place (limbs/wood chopping, clearing bamboo, etc.).

I was at this point a couple years back and decided not to get a HI Kukri. I would still like to have one, but I have a number of choppers that work just fine for me. So, I just passed. I view these Kukri's as something used around a camp, on your property, or for trail maintenance.

Fixed it for you:D

To the OP, depending on your needs, I know that Yangdu Martino of HI will have something to fit your needs.

Personally, for light hiking, i learned long ago that monster size khuks are unneeded weight (for me, of course). I favor 11-14" overall length for hiking. A 12" Ang Khola is the bees knees for this guy.

If you want a thinner, longer, all arounder, do a search on the KLVUK by HI. Great beater blade that cuts super deep. Plus they usually come in under 100 bucks.

Truth be told, I have dozens and dozens of khuks. If i were busting out the door for parts unknown I'd go with a KLVUK.
++ on the KLVUK. A Nepali workin' knife.--KV.

I had a Busse Khukri (KZII model) a Khukri Machete and a no name cheapo Khukri that is either from Nepal or India... soft and not well built.

I have two HI khuki just recently. They are great so far. Both bargains and different. One is a recycled file. The other is a 5 fuller Khukri. The 5 fuller model is a real chopper. It weighs 28 ounces. Chops very very well.

A Cold zsteel Gurka Kukri In O1 or SK5 is pretty good, still under your price. I have the old Carbon V and it is a stellar performer.

That Busse looks pretty sweet. I don't think I've seen that before.

It was stripped and given a polished convex thinned edge.

I moved it on at blade show west last year, to purchase custom knives. So I don't have it any more.

This one might do in a pinch too. Custom from a maker in Poland.

Dang it, more choices that will make me go broke. LOL, the wife will never know, I promise (unless she accepts the delivery, doh!).

Edit: Leaning toward the Kailash Pensioner. I'll definitely post up gratuitous shots of whatever I end up getting :)

Hey there guys! Missed this thread the first time around. Thanks to those who suggested us, we're always keen to get a great knife intot he hands of firt time khukuri buyers.
Sn75, did you end up putting an order through? If not, I have a pensioner left over from a blade show I can sell at a reduced cost. Won't have custom materials etc to your choices, but it's built and ready to go. Send us an email at customdesign@kailashblades.com if so. Otherwise if you have any other questions, just let me know.
Take care,
Andrew and the team at Kailash
