Kumar Karda Antler Hilt

From the front of the habaki bolster, mine are about 6". That is, there is 6" of steel showing.

Steve

the Kumar KArda is awesome.
However, the sheath sucks.
Can we get them to make the same kind of sheath for it as the JKM, Uncle Bill?

Danny with Uncle Bill as sick as he is we're no doubt stuck with what we get.
There's lots of people who can make after market sheaths, and to order at that.
And you've not done too badly with your sheath making either.:D ;)

I agree about the sheaths. It seems like something minor but I think that it's been one of my hold ups on purchasing one. Yes you can have one made but that's more money and a lot more trouble. I personally don't know of anyone to make sheaths so anyone knows of someone who can make one for the KK or especially a Khuk please post the info. I still plan on trying my hand at it but haven't ventured there yet.

well, maybe we can make a tutorial for a KK dangler sheath...
It is a pretty simple design.

Occasionally, HI does send a Kumar Karda in a POUCH dangler sheath. According to my inventory list, I have two. I need to dig them out and have a look again.
I did a search on 'Kumar Karda Pouch' . Sarge SlvrFalcon was really pleased with his. Wonder if he still has it , wherever he is. Sorta miss his input. He had a way with words.
I really need to go to a 12 step program on Khukuris.

my first kumar karda i got, probably a year ago, came with the dangler sheath.

handy blades those KK's are. I need to get a JKM, that is if the sharks would allow me one in antler!

I agree...very nice blades and the antler seems to match the spirit of the blade!

What are the general dimensions on this style blade?

What are the price ranges these styles can be found in?

What does the tang look like?

Thanks for the great pics. I really like those.

cucharadedragon, that was my question. What are the dimensions on that karda?

Man, that stag handle looks polished and really nice.

Hi Terry,
First, I apologise for not answering your question the first time. I just forgot.
The blade length is 5.75" from the brass bolster.
Thickness at the spine is .220".
Width of the blade is 1.14".
Unsharpened ricasso area next to the bolster is about .900 "
Bolster is about 1" long.
Handle is about 3.3" long, 1.070" wide, and about 1.210" high (spine to edge direction)

Price from the website is $60. http://store.yahoo.com/yhst-7333098713883/kumarkarda.html
Standard KK's come in smooth horn or wood, sometimes they are carved. Bill sent some antler back with Pala after his U.S. visit and the kamis used it for some handles. They are available as they come in. Sometimes Bill posts them as a special. Mine was on 1/18 in this thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=329865&highlight=karda+1/18

Don't know just what the tang looks like, but it extends through the buttcap and is peened, just like the khukuries.

It's a stout blade.

Steve

Edited to say"smooth horn or wood" not smooth horn or horn

The Kumar Karda is everything you'll want in a full sized knife. It isnt a chopping AK, but it will fill every other need short of a big chopper. I love mine to death. It's awesome. It feels good, cuts good, looks good and it was only 60$.
It's perfect.

I would like to have a set of knives, like an antler handled AK, KK and JKM.
All with the same handles and fittings. That would be a truly nice collection for a gentleman to own.

No sweat. You answered all of my questions with more detail than I had hoped.

I love the Finish Puuko's, and that is why I love these blades so much.

Are they a traditional style, or something the bladesmiths began making only recently? I ask b/c I think I saw a reference to someone's request for a Puuko style blade on the forums while doing a search.

Hopefully I will be able to beat Yiterp to the punch next time, as I think he wants one as badly as I do.

Do you have any performance pics, or just any other pics?

Can we qualify any of this steel to its actual makeup, or will that always be a mystery?

Thanks again to every that helped with my research.

These knives are fantastic. What I dislike is front bolster and if I could have one without bolster and without ricaso, that would be great.
