Kumar shows his stuff again. Pix and deal.

Berkley, did you get "the shiney one"?
Yep! I am really looking forward to playing with this one. I have three koras, and Uncle's pics indicate that Kumar has done a bangup job of duplicating a traditional kora hilt and bolster. Although I have one original tulwar-hilted khukuri, I have never seen a kora-hilted one on the market, and this looks like an excellent reproduction. I may try to cover the handle with closely wrapped twine, varnished, as many originals were, or may just leave it shiny as some ceremonial koras were. Or I could gild the engraving and blue the guards...and then maybe a Sarki shop quick-draw scabbard covered with deerskin....Hopefully get Sarge to put a razor edge on it when he's in town...
Er, uh, yes, I did get "the shiney one". I think it may have gone to my head a little!:D

I don't think any one will hold it against you if it did go to your head just a little. That is one beautiful blade. Looks like Kumar is making a bid for the royal Kami spot.:)

Berk, good for you. It has great lines. If you get the time, let me in on the gilding process. I may want to try something like that if it's within my limited scope of talent.

I wonder if any trails need clearing around Hippy Hollow? :D

I think Kumar got overly enthusiastic about appearance on this one and left some of the mundane stuff out -- like getting a good sharp edge on it. I noticed a very minor flaw on the edge but it is so minor it's going to disappear when sharpened. You'll probably have to wear your glasses to see it, Berk, but look on the right side about half blade length and I think you may be able to see it. It won't be there when Sarge gets thru with it.

We took our first vacation in about six years, down to the coast for Heinekens and fresh seafood, but of course "the shiney one" arrived the day we left, so it has been waiting at the P.O. for my return.
HOT D*MN!:D This is one honkin' neat knife. Incredible balance - feels much lighter than I expected, almost neutral. This would be a great martial arts piece. Beautiful workmanship, and although Uncle Bill had me expecting a rebated adge like a stage sword, it's sharp enough to do serious damage to the unwary or careless. The blade's spine has absolutely no shoulder - a smooth curve from bolster to tip. The village sarki apparently got into the shiney theme, and put a silver chape on the scabbard as a finishing touch.
If another one of these comes around, I unreservedly recommend it. Kudos to Kumar!

I'll be heading down to Austin this Saturday for the gun show Berk. Never sharpened a knife as fancy as that, might be a little nervous about it. No worries, I'll fast and meditate a couple of days before I come down. Not to steady my nerves, to make more room for beer, beef jerky, and bangers and mash/bubble and squeak.:D

Sarge

After five days of hard vacationing, I could stand a little fasting and meditation myself. Will email phone numbers - please call when you get here and I'll come on by the gun show, or meet you at the Dog & Duck.
