Good, bad,? I thought I would get one since they have been discountinued. I thought that would be a good reason, also always wanted one. Is the blade to thin for defense?

Knife-Bro---I wish Spyderco would do a Kumo with a traditional Japanese blade shape and I don't mean that 45 degree tanto point! And put a grippy G-10 or Micarta handle on that knife with a sculpted pattern. YEP!

I like the Kumo. It's blade shape should provide for excellent penetration and good slashing. If used primarily for SD and not EDC utility use the thin point shouldn't be a significant downside. I think the overall blade thickness is adequate.

The cord wrap handle provides for a good grip but is slim enough not to print significantly if you wear it under clothing.

This R.J. Martin collaboration is a real departure from Spyderco's traditional designs (if there is such a thing) and well worth adding to a Spydie collection - espescially at a discount

Razor---Sorry for my ramble. If you like that blade style and a cord wrapped handle, get one. The sheath system is outstanding. It's a Spyderco knife, you can't go wrong. Post, if you get it.

Yup, its a good one for me. Its very sharp, thin enough to be concealed. Thin for defense? I'm no expert but as RJ Martin wrote it, its thin but strong due to the way it was ground. I haven't done any torture tests on mine but so far it performed great on ropes, paper, and callus! Done a few strokes on an old leather belt after use to keep the sharpness.

R---Glad you like the Kumo! Don't beat it up too much, as in torture test!! FWIW---I'm carrying a Leu custom kozuka as an EDC and it's DA BOM! I love the Japanese style blades. Thanks for the post.

Torture tests? hehe, sometimes you almost get carried away admiring Japanese blades that you want to test the kumo's sharpness like the Japanese swordsmiths do back then. I've limited its use to softer objects anyway. Its my EDC around the house. Planning to have a spydie folder next for a change.
